Last week I backpacked a section of the JMT with friends and witnessed 11 year old Max’s accomplishment as he made his way to 12,014 feet, just above Muir pass. This hike was an eye opening experience as I traveled with a wonderful family group that spanned three generations. The trip was designed for a 11 year old Max, but I saw more than just a first backpacking trip. It was the opportunity for a Grandfather, Son, wife and 11 year old grandson to bond and pass down tradition. At times I felt slightly out of place observing the family And friends. But it was ok. The trip was a beautiful experience and I am grateful for the opportunity.
