naturally, as someone who didn’t have a lot of free time on her hands, cooking wasn’t exactly high on her priority list. jiyeon knew her parents would sometimes spend hours cooking for dinner, and sure she could cut up vegetables and meat ( although not... prettily ), but beyond that -- nothing. it was just food that tasted good, and that was all she cared to know. fast food and home cooked all seemed the same to the young woman, so she never bothered to look all that deeply into it.

when expressing the matter to a classmate who needed a shopping partner, her friend cried out in shock, “you don’t know how to make shrimp carbonara?” jiyeon blinked up innocently from her phone, completely unaware of the scene they were creating in the store. her friend was simply being overdramatic for no reason, as usual. “no? to be honest, i hardly even know how a rice cooker works...” her laughter was shy and short, pushing her bleached blonde hair out of her face. “i’m uhm, busy with school and work, so i hardly even have time to experiment in the kitchen.”

the end came so fast-- one moment, jimin was trying to fight off a crazed soldier, desperate to end the struggle without blood. and then a wave of exhaustion hit him, and the next he could remember, the faery king was walking down the halls of the underwater battlefield and ordering strangers to collect them.

king seokhyeon, jimin had faintly recognized, blinking blearily at his figure. the council was here.

it only made sense, after all-- only the council could solve an issue this huge, and only someone with the vast magical prowess that seokhyeon did could subdue an entire castle of people out for blood. jimin just hopes that hoseok is safe, for a few traitorous moments, before violently pushing away the thought to try and avoid the inevitable pang in his chest at the thought.

he lets them take him (it’s not like he had any choice, head foggy and limbs useless), watching the watery world around them fade into the distance as the volunteers swam upwards with him in their arms.

the rest is a blur, really. being settled back on land, getting accustomed to gravity and air, taking off the necklace and letting it sink into the sandy beach without any intention of picking it back up again. he watches with a towel over his shoulders as more survivors are brought ashore, numbness settling into his chest as friends and strangers alike take in their first breaths of air after hours of being underwater.

he looks away and tries to will away the lump in his throat when they bring hoseok up, shuddering hard enough that the volunteer in charge of taking care of him asks if he’s okay. jimin just shakes his head, and nods through the calming skills the volunteer shares with him, answering her calm questions (”what can you see right now?” “describe a familiar, comfortable place in your memory.” “if you feel dissociated, squeeze my hand until you come back.”) monotonously, making it a point to lie every time anything associated with hoseok appears in his memory.

it’s over, isn’t it?

all of it is-- their relationship, their life together, everything. more things died down there than egos and bodies-- jimin feels like he left a part of himself behind, and now he can’t muster feeling, too shell-shocked to react to the world with anything but apathy.

it was all over. hoseok was a hunter, and jimin was a werewolf. the ugly truth was there to behold for everyone, exposing them for what they really are. jimin had always thought that hoseok was his prince charming, deep down-- but he wasn’t a prince at all. he was the huntsman, and he did not hesitate when ordered to do what he was told, loyal as ever to death and destruction.

the man he loved was a murderer.

when a volunteer asks him if he wants to go home, jimin doesn’t answer for a long time, as if he hadn’t heard them. it takes a few tries-- “jimin-ssi? park jimin-ssi, can you hear me?” before he finally nods his head, mumbling the first address that comes to mind that doesn’t have hoseok’s fingerprints on it when prompted. he’s guided into the card, and they tell him not to worry about getting the seats wet. it’ll be fine. no harm done.

he just stares blankly at the floor.

it’s not that long of a car ride-- the neighborhood was settled close to the beach, overlooking the same shores jimin had been pulled from. if the volunteer has any opinions about the wealth of the house they pull up to, she doesn’t offer any, instead asking if jimin needed help out of the car.

“no,” he said softly. “thank you.”

he watches the woman drive away before finally walking up to the door, still holding the towel around him. he was still in his pajamas-- no socks or shoes, nothing, barefoot and cold and in despair. he knocks on the door before ringing the doorbell, waiting.

when the door opens, jimin tries to keep it together. he does. “hyung,” he finally whimpers out, and it all comes crashing down again, tears welling up in his eyes so quickly and violently that he almost sways right there, gripping his towel so tight around him as if it could protect him from everything that happened. seokjin is his closest friend, the first person he thinks of after hoseok when he needs anyone, and now jimin is standing on his doorstep, shaking so hard he might fall over. “seo-- hic, seokj-jin hyung--”

today’s eye colour was something more exotic. she knew of humans with different eye colours and although it’s not common amongst asians, having blue, green and hazel eyes were a possibility. so for today’s eye colour, she switches it up for a hazel-green mix that seems to sparkle in the sunlight. she could feel humans staring at her eyes but she could only assume that many dismiss it as contacts. if only they knew.

her absent minded travelling slows when she reaches a part of busan that just seems more ...upper class. there’s a large building and people with expensive looking clothes were walking in and out, talking on phones, avoiding pictures being taken or even joining in on them. this is what she could only assume to be housing for human celebrities (not that she would know, anyways).

her eyes fall on a shiny looking car that seems not only in mint condition, but far better looking than the common cars she sees on the street in the main area of the city. unable to suppress her curiosity, she draws closer to the expensive looking car. momo’s fingers swipe against the car’s curve. it’s incredibly smooth and the sun’s rays bounce off of it readily, giving it a glowing look. she can’t help but be entranced by how nice to looks. is this why humans were so money hungry?

she’s far too preoccupied with her admiration to even check if the owner of the vehicle was approaching -- or to be mindful that this was possibly not typical human behaviour. instead, she’s drawn out of her thoughts when the car beeps twice loudly, causing her to jump in surprise. she looks around, eyes wide, wondering if the owner of the expensive vehicle was nearby.

“but hyung, i’ve had enough--” jimin protests, face falling at yet another plate of food. “i can’t eat as much as you, come on--”

poor thing. seokjin had roped him into joining another one of his live eatjin broadcasts, and now he had to refrain from downright whining to him as he stared at all the food in front of them. seriously, how seokjin inhaled it, jimin will never know. he’s so stuffed, he doesn’t know if he can eat another bite. “are you sure i really have to eat all of this? i’ve already eaten two bowls, come on...”

“huh?”

jimin lifts his head from the book he’d been reading, startled by the elder’s sudden muttering. one glance at the distressed expression on his face had him worried– another glance at what he was looking at, the laptop, had him concerned. he sat up from where he’d been laying back on the couch next to him, turning to face him. “what’s wrong?”

seokjin offers no answer, so jimin elects to scoot closer, peeking over his shoulder to look at his laptop. “what’s the pr…”

he was playing maplestory. and he’d died against some high level boss, avatar floating in ghost form over a gravestone. the concern is wiped from jimin’s face as he stares at it, before he looks over at seokjin incredulously. “you’re unreal,” he exhales, exasperated, tempted to thump his forehead on the elder’s shoulder out of pure disbelief. “you’re ridiculous, my god. i can’t– really!?”

the stars on television screens always seemed as far away as the stars in the sky, and hwasa never held a single hope to reach either. they were perfect, bright and brilliant, while she remained dull and mediocre, not even close to their radiance -- which is why she found herself past surprise when one handsome, modest man snacking in her bakery turned out to be one of them.

a while passes and hyejin perceives herself as a mix of a friend and a comfort blanket for the model, who turned out to be more lovely than she ever would have guessed. this one particular day, lovely model seokjin is in need of reassurance that hyein is all too eager to give. she thrives off of being needed; off of being the person someone wants the most, someone necessary, someone who can help and take care of others. it’s a craving that she never finds quite satisfied, but looking after seokjin is both an honour and a necessity that she’s quite glad to be responsible for. seeing the boy’s face light up is often all she needs to restore her energy.

so -- the whispered, weak words of a familiar phone call are ringing in her ears, and she doesn’t waste a second before hanging up her apron and leaving her bakery in the hands of capable employees. seokjin needs her, and there’s no way she’s going to let him down.
