Just a few conversions today that I forgot to post on Sunday when I made them. Had a bit of an unofficial “villain’s week” for my last Monster Popularity Contest, including MtG’s most infamous villain.

And this is the very last of the December requests from my Patrons! I’ve finally gotten through them just 4 days late. This last one is a request by my $1 Patron Alex Brown, who wanted to see the very-meta Sword of Dungeons & Dragons from Unstable in, well, the real game of Dungeons & Dragons. This is the only silver-bordered request I got this time around, but next time I wouldn’t be surprised if I got more.

So, as you guys know, Unstable has several “outside assistance” cards- cards which ask you to interact with players outside of your game for effects. Now, I was alone with my friend, meaning we had to get creative for these kinds of effects. My deck, something to the tune of Abzan Augment Pile, contained two Squirrel Dealers and one Gimme Five. After a bunch of getting creative, calling family, friends, significant others, and even going downstairs to the security desk to ask a very-bored guard if he liked squirrels, I finally drew, and for mostly shits and giggles, cast Gimme Five. I considered it to be an achievement to get a single high five at all, considering it was 9:00 at night. My friend suggested I go next door and ask them for high fives, as she knew the guy who lived there, and he always had people over. Being slightly buzzed and a generally pretty socially-unconcerned person, I thought it’d be hilarious.  So, I knocked on the door, and a girl opened the door. By my count, there were about 7 people. So, I tell her that I urgently need to high five everyone in the room. She looked around, shrugged, and let me in, giving me a high five on the way. These guys- being pretty drunk- happily high-fived a stranger running around, emphatically counting them. After that, I thanked them and left, probably with them wondering who the hell I was or why I was counting high fives. About five minutes later, I needed to resolve a Squirrel Dealer trigger, so I knocked on their door. A different girl answered, and I asked. She said yes, confused, and I got my squirrel token. By that point, I think I’d definitely piqued their interest.  About twenty minutes later, they knock on the door. I open it to see who it is, and all of them barge in. They had thought there was a game of truth or dare going on- hence my bizarre behaviour- and wanted in. We laughed and explained to them that we were just playing a card game, and just kept bothering them for our “outside assistance” cards because they were closest and we thought it was hilarious to see them puzzle over the weirdos across the hall. So, I expected them to go home after that, because, you know, why would any random guys getting wasted want to play Magic? Then, the night took a turn into myth and legend, when the lead guy just nods.  “Bitchin. How we play?”  He asks. I honestly didn’t know how to answer it, honestly. They all thought we seemed to be having a blast and wanted to join in. So, I ripped open a bunch more Unstable packs, built some things technically called decks, and made up some super-simplified rules about how to play Magic that weren’t... wrong, per se. I call it “drunk Magic”. We spent two more hours laughing so hard I felt dizzy as people played a game resembling MtG with each other on any surface they could get cards on, laughing the whole way. One guy asked me if he could augment his hydra-cat with additonal heads in order to make one neck produce an entire new branch of necks. I said sure, why not? Two girls used Better Than One to become a team and eviscerate someone else. One guy got a Baron Von Count kill (again, sorta), and started spouting an honestly impressive array of clock-related puns to gloat his victory.  Was it strictly speaking Magic: The Gathering? No, oh my god, no. But man, was it some of the best damn fun I’ve had since I learned to play? Oh, man, yes.
