So I have two boxes of MSD girl clothes which I had collected between 2005 and 2008, long before I owned any girl doll who would wear them (in Small Wonder canon, at least).  I was generally more attracted to, and wanted to own, boy dolls, but I knew that I also really enjoyed how pretty the dresses for girl dolls were.  So I just kept collecting them, kind of on the side, as it were...

I dumped the contents of both boxes out this morning and was honestly surprised by how much there is for only 4 years or so of collecting, and no doll to actually wear them during that time. XD;;;  Separates are on the left, and sets on the right:

The MSD size was my “first love” and I fully expected to collect only MSD-sized dolls for the duration of my time in the hobby.  When I bought my first Yo-SD (Laurie - Volks Anne Sweet Dream), it was partly because her sculpt captivated me, and partly because I was sub-consciously trying to fulfil my thwarted desires for a doll to wear frills and ruffles...  

Well, the Yo-SD thing has gone leaps and bounds in its own direction since then. XD;;  Of course, that still left me with two boxes of MSD girl clothes and no one to wear them, until I finally purchased an MSD girl who could wear them in-character.  She arrived in September this year, and she still doesn’t have a name or a proper face-up, but I feel very contented just having her.  And she definitely does not need any clothes purchased for her, there’s enough here to last a dolly lifetime...  

All the sets are pictured below, barring the lovely kimono and yukata, which I will put into a separate photo.  I think the majority of these are Volks sets, which are usually very nice quality.  There is also some elaborate Japanese dealer stuff, and an adorable Ospirit casual set.

Tatsue ^-^

Credits: Tatsue is a Volks SDC Ren head on a Volks MSD body.  Shirt and linen capris by Volks White Rose.  Wig is Kemper Nikki in mohair.  Eyes by 木啊木, but they will probably not be permanent as they’re a bit too other-worldly for my taste...

Tatsue usually wears traditional Japanese dress, or sometimes a soft rustic style like you see above.  I want to get him more yukata and kimono, perhaps in soft greys and blues.  His collection is very modest at the moment: just a couple kimono/ haori, a Volks hakama set and one yukata (ignore the floral thing, which was an early sewing attempt of mine XD; Only Shiina has ever been subjected to that one).  

One of my main gripes with the kimono/ yukata available on the international market is how un-authentic most of them look. D: If you have tips for where to get nice ones, please let me know....

In sorting through this part of my MSD clothing collection, I realised that one pair of “MSD” geta was actually SD-sized (sad!); one yukata was actually Yo-SD-sized; and one MSD boy yukata had been carelessly sorted into the girl’s clothing box (the navy one on the left) XD; (in my defence, the sleeves seem unusually long for a men’s yukata...? >.o)

The silk kimono at the bottom of the photo above has a totally separate sage green under-kimono (not just a faux collar), so dressing does take a while.  The obi belt is made of a very intricate gold brocade, and the obiage is in purple shibori.   It’s very detailed and beautifully made. (I hope my new girl likes orange!)

Whilst going through the last few boxes, I was thinking that I didn’t have as much MSD clothing as I’d thought I’d had... then I came to the trouser box. XD;;  

The top row is all cargo pants (11 pairs), brands include Mio, Volks and LUTS.  In some cases, I have the same pairs in different colours.  The second row is more formal pants on the left, and more casual trousers on the right.  (There are a couple pairs of very lovely White Rose trousers which I want to put on someone soon.)  The bottom row has suspender pants, overalls, and some random thicker pairs of trousers in wool or corduroy.  Oh, and there’s a small pile of PJ pants which is rather over-exposed since I’m just using my basic phone camera. >_>

I’m remembering/ realising as I’m going through all this clothing, that there is so much more room for detail on MSD clothing than Yo-SD!  Zippers (good luck getting one of those into your Yo-SD fly!), pockets of various types, snap fasteners, rivets, belt loops, back yokes, decorative straps and ruching are the order of the day.  Waistbands have contrasting interior bias binding, and some pairs are even fully lined.  I’m motivated to see how much more detail I can push into my Yo-SD sewing!
