The weather is going from iced coffee to milk tea and I'm a little excited about that part. And I'm rereading The Picture of Dorian Gray with my two friends in our casual book club, and I'm trying to annotate it since it's one of my favourite books and it's taking a while to read like that. And yes, I'm using an orange highlighter and orange tabs to match the cover.

congrats on hitting a follower milestone!! i have a little prompt for you that i hope you haven't written yet (i haven't been active, so i haven't been keeping up) nit a steddie drable where eddie works in a record shop next to the video rental where steve works at
Thank you! :D I have not and I enjoyed writing it very much!
Loud music blasts from “Record Mania” when the door opens. They’re gracious not to blast it so loud it shakes the wall of the building—again. Eddie pumps up the volume when he pleases and his coworker lowers it immediately. A most symbiotic relationship.
Their battle over the volume in the store continues over the day. He does give it a rest when a customer drops by but ups the volume when they leave again.
The only way to prevent this is if she switches music to something that doesn’t have loud drums and guitar solos, which is why when Steve opens the door to the store he’s welcomed by the tunes of “I’m So Excited” by The Pointer Sisters. It’s the first time he recognizes a song in the shop, but admitting that out loud won’t impress Eddie.
Eddie, who’s dressed in a red flannel with rolled-up sleeves, a leather bracelet dangling on his slim wrist, long fingers flipping through the vinyls on sale and sorting them right. His hair has grown longer during summer and he’s dealing with that by putting it up in a sloppy ponytail. Feeling eyes on him (something he’s gotten used to given the circumstances) he looks towards the entrance, brown eyes falling on Steve’s broad frame.
“Hi.” Steve brushes a hand through his hair, flashing a smile. He walks over to the sale rack. “Didn’t know you were working today.” A blatant lie. Not that anyone would know.
“Disappointed?” he asks, turning his gaze back to the vinyls. He doesn’t remind Steve that he’s at the record store practically every day. Work is a nice distraction from what’s going on in his head.
“No, never, but uhm… I want to buy Dustin a present. You’ve got CDs, right?” Of course, they do, but he wants Eddie to show them where they are and give him tips on what to buy so they can talk away his lunch break. Again.
“Yeah, it’s why these guys are on sale. I want to buy one for my collection but… Hmm…” He draws in a breath, pouting. Thinking better than to air his grievance he waves his hand in the air, beckoning Steve to follow him. “If you’d follow me, sir.”
Steve rolls his eyes but follows him. The CD section is extensive (he knows it is) and has been there for a while (he knows it has) with enough genres and artists to soothe every craving. “What do you listen to? I think he’d like one of yours, I mean- not yours, obviously, I’m buying a new one,” he stops talking and tries to smile, but feels it’s more like a grimace. At least Robin isn’t around to point out his failed attempt at conversing.
Eddie gives a crooked smile, front teeth showing, and chuckles. “Didn’t think you’d climb in through my window at night and steal my precious hoard, don’t worry, Harrington.” He looks over the rows, reaching out to flip through the artists.
“Ha…” Steve lets out a nervous laugh. “I’ll climb through your window for another reason, promise.” Wait.
“Not a fan of things going bump in the night,” Eddie says, not looking at him, and picks an album. “Why don’t you try the front door? I hear knocking is really in these days.” Now he looks at Steve’s face.
His lips are parted slightly, words stuck in his throat and refusing to come out causing him to choke on them, and he only manages to stutter, “Ha, yeah.” He realises he’s staring into Eddie’s chocolate button eyes, and to stop it he looks at the album pretending to read the titles of the songs.
“Wanna check out?”
“Hm? Yeah, yeah, sure.” No, not really, but he doesn’t know how to talk with Eddie about music. Or that game he’s got going with the babies. If only Eddie was into something else—but then he wouldn’t be Eddie.
Eddie’s fingers clad in rings work swiftly on the register. “You sure this is a gift for Dustin and not someone else? Robin says you’ve got a babe you’re into who likes metal.” He winks but doesn’t offer his help in wooing her.
“She’s not a babe,” Steve corrects with a frown. “I mean, she is… she just isn’t a…”
Eddie tilts his head to the side, leaning on the counter to look up at him with his big eyes. “Metal chicks not doing it for you, huh? Maybe you should stick to preps.” It’s not meant to be a stab at the girls he’s pursued in the past, but his tone is sharper than he wants it to be.
It would be so easy to put the record straight (or, uhm, not straight), but he’s afraid. “I’ll take your opinion under consideration. Thanks. Have a nice day.”
“Bye Harrington! See you soon!” Eddie calls after him. He thinks it's lovely that Steve is buying a gift for Dustin since his birthday was two months prior, but it's good to be prepared a year in advance.
Is there anything in the worldbuilding process that you needed to figure out because it is important for the plot, but that you don't know how to imply?
This was another question left in my drafts because it was a really good question and my answer is a concept I still struggle to really explain/figure out!!!!!! ❤️ Thank you for the question which got me to really think about this through a little more!
So one thing I’m really struggling with is the fact that like...a primitive form of electricity (probably???) exists in the setting of The Hour of Magic. Basically everywhere but Crestwall uses it, and it was probably invented by someone in New Nobelia, using magic of some kind. It’s mostly used for lighting and maybe some basic motors for open/closing gates and powering small carts or something. Maybe.
I don’t know what to call it, because “electricity” sounds way too modern but something like “lightning power” sounds way too try-hardy. I like names that sound original/have a fantasy flavor, but its at least somewhat obvious what it is after a brief explanation (For example, this world also has the equivalent of coffee, called “godsbrew”).
I don’t exactly know the parameters for how it would work, its limits, etc. I don’t want to entirely lose the fantasy feel of the story, but apart from one setting, I’m not really going for a steampunk aesthetic either. The first part of the story takes place in Crestwall so I was able to push off figuring things out. But now I’m at a point where things being powered by ““““electricity”””” is another symbol of how Crestwall is allowing itself (literally!) to stay in the dark compared to how drastically advanced other civilizations are.
It’s one of the most poorly planned aspects of my story lmao. I might end up scrapping the idea entirely and probably just having magic lights be a thing lol.
💡 - What inspired the wip? When/how did you first get the idea?
Hi! Thank you for the ask! :D I'll be answering these for my fantasy series~
🤫 - A big spoiler/piece of lore out of context
The Moon Goddess is seen as the mother of many things.
💡 - What inspired the wip? When/how did you first get the idea?
When I was around 12 it manifested into a proper idea as a fantasy world with realms in it. Back then, it was all one big world and characters could walk between the territories of the Spirits (Deities) and the conflict was different.
The jist was that while alternate universes existed outside this world, this world only had one reality.

synopsis
In the world of Fae, humans are accepted, but they are servants and workers. Sometimes, those humans do something outstanding for the Fae that they are granted the same fortune as they have: become Fae.
Adessa's great great grandfather is one such human. He was granted the opportunity to become Fae, but before that happened, he had a wife and a child, but the Fae aren't so kind to have his family become part of the Folk. Instead they were regarded as greater than other humans. They lived among the Folk (if they wished) almost as one of them. But such families weren't common.
Although Adessa has grown up in similar splendour as the Fae, she has never gone out to interact with them. It was safer and easier to not get their attention. But things change after her best friend dies and she finds out who did it. Now she lives among the Folk, becoming close with the first prince, Nova, while her attention keeps going to Caelan, the second prince, the one ostracised by everyone, due to the lack of powers everyone else in the royal family has.
characters
Adessa | human | f. | 23 | bi
A human girl set on revenge for the death of her best friend. Although her goal was to get close to Nova and Lyr, the first and third princes, she ends up getting close to Caelan instead.
Caelan | fae | m. | 24 | pan
The second prince, believed to not have any powers. He holds a devastating secret that Adessa finds out about, so they start working together.
Eliseo | fae | m. | 26 | pan
Caelan's cousin and a prince himself, but has no right to the throne. He's always been closest to Caelan due to some bullying from the rest of the family due to his powers of healing.
Seren | fae | f. | 24 | ace
Daughter of one of the generals, a socialite among the fae. Although she's close with Nova, Lyr and other cousins, she much prefers Caelan and Eliseo and ends up being the first to properly befriend Adessa.
Dolunay | human | f. | 21 | straight
Adessa's best friend that dies and jumpstarts her revenge plot. Her mother was turned into a Fae just after she was born and she grew up with Adessa, but unfortunately she met an untimely death and her parents returned to the human world.
worldbuilding
setting: There exist two worlds. The world of humans and the world of Fae. In the world of Fae, nature is the most important part. Everything is made around it. There are many things that the world of Fae doesn't have that the world of humans does, but it is the same the other way around. The world of the Fae is called Vilena.
royal family: Many years ago, King Gavril became the first true king of the Fae. He was gifted with the powers of telepathy and soothsaying. Then his children were gifted with powers of their own and their children as well. That is the royal family of Vilena.
humans being turned into fae: When a human does something remarkable, they can get the opportunity to become Fae. For such a ritual, a member of the royal family, usually the king, has to kill the human with a specific dagger and drop them into a pool. The details of it are only known to the royal family as no one is present and the turned human is forced to forget.
