The Case of the Blue Carbuncle
Last Rec of the year, hopefully many more the coming year!
A modernization of The Adventure of the Blue Carbuncle, sort of. No geese were harmed or mentioned in the making of this fic. A jewel is stolen on Christmas Eve. John and Sherlock play at being the Grinch.

Audio: I loved John and Sherlock's banter about Christmas! The whole dialogue with the little girl had me laughing so hard, even on a relisten I'm wiping tears away. Such a great fic to finish off the advent series. "Why are you so thin Santa?" lolololol. Ms. H's delivery is great as ever, and perfect music selection matched the situations so well.
Story: The Blue Carbuncle I had actually watched a few days before listening to this so I totally got a kick out of the cannon references. It's only the initial premise used so don't worry if you're not familiar with cannon. Nicely done to fit it in the modern setting, and it all escalated into a hilarious farce. Plus bonus Johnlock Christmas feels squeeeeee (don't want to give the ending moment away but oh John you sweetie and Sherlock oh you)
Rating: A+, I can't wait for Christmas to come around next year so I can enjoy this again!

John's Midnight Garden
For as long as John can remember he has dreamt of the garden. It isn’t a place that he’s ever been to in real life, but when he closes his eyes and drifts off he sometimes finds himself there.
"It’s a strange, rambling place, full of nooks and crannies. It’s like the gardens of the stately homes that his parents would take him and Harry to when they were little, but isn’t based on any of them.
In some places there are clearly regimented borders, with flowers planted in bright rows of colour and hemmed in with short walls, and lawns marked out clearly below the terrace. Then, further in, there are wild places, where the trees are so tall that when he was little he thought that they were like the Magic Faraway tree and they might stretch up past the sky and into different lands. There is a walled rose garden, thickets of brambles and strange, secret places under the yew trees where he can run and hide."

Audio: I really really loved Ms. H's advent podfic series, so many awesome podfics to listen to, I'm sure I'll rec them all eventually. I recommend the version with music, Ms. H has some wonderful sound track picks, with lots of Joe Hisashi in this one! Fantastic innovative podficcer!! Plus I really love her reading style, it's like listening to someone reading a fairy tale to you.
Story: What a lovely story! John meeting childhood Sherlock in his dreams, and loved the little hints you get from Sherlock that it really happened. Plus kid Sherlock is written so believably and in character.

Audio: I feel SO bad this being my first Ms. H rec, her advent calender series has been FANTASTIC. She runs music in the background, and has some fantastic choices. I was a bit thrown when I first started listening to her podfics, because I'd start getting distracted by the music. But once I got used to it I was able to focus on the voice and the music becomes like a movie soundtrack adding to the tone. It's a really interesting technique.
Story: God I love the OC POV of this Holmes family, esp the the social climbing lady who has some expectations dashed about the`Earl of Abingdon`. And I just love the idea of John being some kind of Angelina Jolie going around adopting all these kids, always seemingly with a baby on his hip, I mean awwwwww John.
Rating: A, I could not wipe the grin off my face listening to this
