Wedding without a Guest Book
Her hands were shaking violently. She felt like her lungs would burst. Her reflection stared into her eyes, then looked to her waist, then her hair. Her fingers felt a lingering burn from the heat of a curling iron as she swiped her small hands across the sequined veil of her snow white dress. Quick, last minute adjustments were made to the delicate curls of her hair, then she clipped the veiled tiara in the back of her bun. She had always looked forward to this day, she knew how nervous both parties were, but she never imagined getting ready for her own wedding by herself. It was lonely and quiet. No one was there to comfort her, to tell her to remember to breathe or calm down. Her mother didn't go dress shopping with her, her father wouldn't be able to walk her down the aisle. No after parties or cake. Just a quick wedding, then back to work. And she had never imagined taking the last name Sionis. He was having second thoughts about this wedding secret. He flipped out his phone once or twice to call a few close friends, trying to leave a voicemail only to get the response of "The number you have dialed has been disconnected." He dialed the number of some of his trusted bodyguards, but cancelled after the first ring. He paced back and forth, adjusting his bow tie and glancing in the mirror. He put his hands to his mask, pulling it off and looking back at it. The lifeless skull stared back at him, and he placed it on the table. His hair was a mess. Maybe he shouldn't have waited 5 minutes before the wedding to comb it. He didn't even have a comb. Shit. Roman rented out the biggest, fanciest chapel in Gotham, and hired a pastor he knew would keep quiet. He owed him a favor. Every footstep reverberated off the walls of the grand hall, every little sound was picked up by the high walls. Since only 3 people were attending, it was going to be even worse during the exchange of vows. Roman stood at the end of the aisle, discussing payment with the pastor, when Li came out of the dressing room and into the sanctuary. "Roman?" Her voice echoed from down the hall. "Would you like to begin?" He tried to respond but his throat choked up. The pastor must have seen him struggle to form the words, so he replied instead. "Indeed dear, he is more than ready." She walked out from behind the giant doors, leaving Roman in awe with her beautiful appearance. She made her way down the aisle with a charming grace, one Roman had never seen from her before. She laced her fingers in between his as the pastor began reading. Mere minutes felt like hours, and both the bride and groom were growing anxious, and could feel each other's hands trembling. "To- to have and to h-hold, in sickness and in h-health," he stuttered, "Fuck it." He grabbed Li's face and brought it closer to his, whispering "I do," before pushing into a long kiss. "Oh no you don't," she whispered, pulling back from the kiss, "We have to finish." He grumpily made his way through the rest of the lines, and listened to Li's smooth voice make its way before suddenly saying "I do." He carefully pushed the small detailed diamond ring onto her finger, while she put the jagged diamond ring onto his. "You may now kiss the bride," "Fuckin' finally," he pulled her back to his lips and had one of the best kisses in his life- which is saying a lot. **** Who knows how much champagne they drank last night, and who cares. Who cares that they were hungover on a weekday, who cares what the other mobs are doing? Who cares if his men are wondering where he was? Who cares about the rest of the world? All they cared about was Mr. and Mrs. Sionis.
