Ms. G's
155 Victoria Street
Potts Point
Comprising of four dining areas on four levels, my favourite had to be the mezzanine level, with the sun streaming through the floor to ceiling glass panels, slow lazy fans overhead, and glimpses of the city & Darling Harbour on a gorgeous Sunday afternoon.
mini banh mi - crisp pork belly & chicken katsu // ms g's grilled corn on the cob, parmesan & lime
The corn is fresh charred & crunchy, with a mexican spiced kick, and soft curls of parmesan with a squeeze of lime.
I had hoped for the crusty yet delectably soft buns, like the banh mi I had at The Aviary. The pork belly more than made up for it, oozy luscious sticky giving way to the fatty richness. The katsu paled in comparison.
kingfish sashimi, buttermilk, compressed rhubarb, jalapeno, quinoa
Hitting all the right notes, with bold flavours from a light dish - you have cold silky fresh kingfish, with creamy velvety buttermilk, the acidity from the cold rhubarb cutting through yet lightly sweet, a gorgeous kick from the jalapeno and crunchy toasted quinoa.
prawn toast, yuzu aioli, herbs
I've been relatively sheltered from prawn toasts, having had my first one three years back at West Lake and never wanting to see one ever again. And yet the good people at Claremont Tonic renewed my faith in this dish, and Ms G's did not disappoint, with a piping hot toasted crunch first up, followed by juicy fresh prawns as you bite through. With a generous bed of greens of coriander, vietnamese mint, scallions.
jow's sweet & sour lamb ribs
So far the corn, pork belly banh mi, buttermilk kingfish & the prawn toast have been spot on. I hoped the bigger dishes shared the same fate.
The lamb ribs fell of the bone in a spectacular fashion, soft luscious meat, crispy caramelised coating, the perfect amount of fattiness with a sweet sticky sauce.
crispy pork hock, pink lady apple kimchi, 5 flavour sauce, lettuce & herbs
The pork hock is as it looks, ticking all the right boxes - crispy skin, juicy & slightly fatty. The classic pork & apple pairing comes in the form of a carrot & apple slaw, not your typical acidic kimchi, but sweet & light with good heat.
stoner's delight 2.0 - doughnut ice cream, peanut butter, raspberry jam, candied bacon, potato chips, mars bar slice & banana fritter
You can't go past the name. The playful combination, and yet not heavy in the slightest. You have the salty sweet from the sticky candied bacon, peanut butter sauce, and the potato crisps taste all peanut buttery. The doughnut ice cream is creamy & cinnamony, with a banana fritter & a chocolate rice puff bar. Pools of bright raspberry coulis to cut through the richness. A heady concoction of creamy rough crunch salty sweet sour chewy.
Ms G's does big bold fresh flavours. Reminiscent of Claremont Tonic rather than Chin Chin / Coda in Melbourne.
