Why our brains love stories.
Stories are a powerful tool in human communication. Research indicates that the human brain responds to the descriptive power of stories in deeply affecting ways, influencing both the sensory and motor cortex. To read a story is to feel an experience and to synchronize our minds with the subject of the story.
The most shocking marketing advice: Go Analog
Analog? You ask? Like cassettes and vinyl? Not exactly.
One of the most shocking marketing recommendations I have for people is to go analog. In the digital world, any chance to take a relationship from the digital world into the real world creates a stronger bond.
It seems simple enough, right? You would be deeply shocked to know how many marketers ignore this critical component of their marketing strategy. It is very simple, if you have a database of trade show leads, send them something preferably something creative that you would actually want. Or a handwritten note with your business card to reconnect. Recently, one of my Clients sent a letter and an new map to their database. The phone rang off the hook, finally the contacts she had been calling could visualize the vacation that they had been discussing at trade shows for years.
Trade shows are having a little bit of a revival with social media. Meeting colleagues and staying in touch over twitter has elevated the once boring trade show circuit. Now trade shows offer tweet ups for all the tweeps to meet in person before the actual trade show. These are must attend events and if you have never been to a tweet up. You are missing out. But don't forget to send everyone a hand written note when you get home. In digital, a little analog goes a long way.
