12. 2014-03-30 Apink - Mr. Chu
Apink was one of the first groups that I got a chance to follow from their rookie year onward. Can you believe itโs been almost 9 years? โIt Girlโ was the song that made me a fan of their music. Their youthful voices worked really well with such an aegyo inducing song. Mr. Chu is a bit of a step up from that concept. While still very much in the innocent phase, the song is a lot more gleeful and fun track. I believe the strength of the song lies in the perfect change of pacing. Each verse starts off with a slower pace, a girl talking about her falling slowly for this guy. The 2nd half of the verses pick up speed shortly after and the production of the song ramps up considerably, all the way to the final words of the chorus. Rewatching these Apink videos made me think about how the cute concept spectrum is handled today. I canโt think of girls from girl groups doing a tone of aegyo in MVs these days. I hope a girl group in the future can implement aegyo successfully in the future!
