Insects are finally starting to fly again after a long winter! Several species of butterflies such as this Nymphalis antiopa and Nymphalis I-album. Polygonia seem to be quite skittish and difficult to photograph. The Compton Tortoiseshell conveniently flew down from a tree and landed on leaf litter right in front of me!

I spent 4 hours in the forest yesterday, standing still, trying to get Mourning Cloaks to land on me, and some actually did! It was a beautiful sunny day. They didn't stay for more than a second, though. At one point, one actually landed on my hand for about 3-4 seconds, but unfortunately, my camera wasn't rolling. This short video is of one showing an interest and lightly touching my wrist. I could have framed it better, but I had no idea where it would land. I guess I could put sap on my fingers, but that would get very sticky and uncomfortable after a while.
