Last week I was excited to see my slipper orchid finally emerging blooms, at the end of this blooming season! 😁🌸🌿🙌🏻, I was getting worried that I did not take care of it correctly this past year and it won't be blooming. It even surprised me with a double bloom!! Unlike moth orchids, these orchids only have one flower per blooming spikes. So for my birthday 🎁 today the lovely @solomonhelenabebe decided to take me for my first ever Orchid show!!! The Kenya 🇰🇪 Orchid Society is having their show this week at Sarit Centre and it’s awesome 😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍 !!!! . Sooooo many beautiful plants and setups, wowwww guys really put their heart ❤️ and souls into their plants!!! Definately make a pass by there, they are selling some plants, pots, fertilizer Etc and the guys there are so nice answered many of my questions!!! . Enjoying this aging thing, 34 yrs old doesn’t feel so bad! Other years I would been keen on a serious party 🎉, now am just happy I got an orchid and saw many more! . 🙏🏿🙏🏿🙏🏿 Thanks for all the birthday wishes!!! So one of my oldest Orchids which I have had for two years minimum, became a mother of two “Keiki”over six months ago. 😊😊😊😊😊... Keiki are baby orchids that are a clone of their parent. Keiki is a Hawaiian word for child 👶🏼. . Not all Orchids develop Keikis. After your Orchid has finished blooming and you cut back the flower 🌸 spike, sometimes three things could happen; the stem can dry up and die which happens a lot, the stem may develop a new flower 🌸 and lastly you may start seeing leaves develop at the cut end of stem. Orchid keikis occur naturally when growth hormones accumulate at a node on the flower spike. . So far my Keikis have been growing for nearly six months. It’s important to let the root system develop on your Keiki until at least the roots are 3 inches long and it should have three or more leaves 🌱🌱🌱 on it. . From what I have read up in 2-3 Years your Keiki could start flowering some even earlier. While orchid keikis are exciting, they can also be a sign that your plant is under a lot of stress. Sometimes an orchid will put off a keiki as a way of continuing its legacy if it fears that death is in the future. . So now I got two more Orchids that I didn’t buy! 😊😊😊😊😊... plus this week I noted a new Keiki on one of my other Orchids. Guess it’s birthing time in our house...😁... 🤣🤣🤣... . So I just reported one of them in a Terrarium, am actually enjoying this Terrarium environments my orchids are doing so well in them plus maintenance is very low am watering them probably once every two months...🤗🤗🤗... compared to nearly every other week for my other orchids in the regular pots.
