* itâs truly a wonder that youâre still alive.
"I've been told that I have a knack for getting through tough situations."
She said it with humor, but a part of her couldn't help but reflect that Mrs. Bradley honestly had no idea how right she was. Sometimes Riza herself was amazed that she was still alive and sane after everything she had been through in her life.
But this was not the time to reflect on her childhood, or on Ishval. She had no desire to fall into deep thought about those things at the moment. She didn't have the energy too. She was already focusing most of her energy into this visit.
"Still... it was a close call, you're right," Riza said, resisting the urge to reach up to the bandages around her neck. "I am grateful to be here."
It was a lot closer than Riza wanted to admit, and that was another thing that she tried not to think too hard about at the moment. There were many things about that day she tried not to think too hard about.
Riza drew herself out of her thoughts, and focused back on the other woman who had come to visit her in the hospital. Riza's recovery was going to take some time, with the volume of blood she had lost, and the hospital was keeping a close eye on her. They had only recently started letting her have visitors again, although she had not expected Mrs. Bradley to be one of them.
As far as she had known, to Mrs. Bradley, she had just been another assistant of her husband's. She didn't think that she had mattered enough to the woman for her to come visit. Aside from that, Mrs. Bradley had really loved her husband, so Riza had to be sure that the woman was still grieving. Not to mention the whole mess with Selim. Her visiting was a definitely a surprise.
"Thank you for taking the time to come visit me, Mrs. Bradley," she said with a smile. "I'm sure you have plenty of your own to worry about. I didn't expect you to come see me."
