Reading your posts is making me go 'did MadNBooks make a tumblr and not tell us?' 😅 If you're interested, she reacted to Epic, Stories from Styx, and ran Odyssey book club on youtube, reading the Fagles translation (with fun voices) and explaining anything the chat had questions about. We're currently doing Iliad book club and picking our favorite war criminals :)

i haven't seen any of her vids but that sounds neat! i do have a significant problem with the "pick your favorite war criminal" approach... while i don't recommend reading any ancient literature to find the characters most aligned to modern morality to root for, and i understand (i think) that that's what "they're all war criminals so it doesn't matter" is trying to get at, it trivializes things that i take seriously. (and i don't know that people who say it would be equally comfortable saying "it's about picking your favorite rapist and enslaver.") hopefully my blog makes it obvious that i believe we can take them seriously and still love the characters as characters, if we want to.

I saw you like Epic the musical, if you'd like to see knowledgeable people react and analyze the musical, I recommend Peter Barber for music analysis, and MadNBooks for story analysis. Mad is also doing YouTube book club of The Odyssey and we're getting close to The Challenge! (You don't have to have the book to join book club, Mad reads aloud and answers questions as she goes)

Ohhh Mad is one of my favourite Epic reactions!!! I adore everything they have to say on the matter (even the Vengeance Saga, if nothing else it was funny), and oh my god their bookclub!!! That was what made me realize my copy of The Odyssey was gone, and thus I bought a new one! You know. For fanfic purposes. Why else? My favourite Epic reaction was from Mortius. I love Open Arms, and Casper, and actually right now he's just started watching The Amazing Digital Circus! Anyway, off I go to check out Peter Barber on 1,127 days left!
