Mort Drucker
We’re saddened to learn that Mort Drucker has died at the age of 91 (it happened Thursday). If you were reading Heavy Metal in your late teens, you were probably reading a lot of Mad magazine before that, and as Mad’s in-house caricature and parody master, Drucker was a fixture in the Usual Gang of Idiots from the late ‘70s onward. Farewell to a very talented illustrator. . #mortdrucker #ripmortdrucker #madmagazine #americangraffiti #parody #caricature https://www.instagram.com/p/B-2LCTVFzgP/?igshid=19j9iav9mrk6c

Sad to see Mort Drucker, the greatest Mad Magazine artist of all-time IMHO, has passed at 91. I met him a few years ago at NY Comic Con and he kindly signed a 45 sleeve he drew in the 80s for a short-lived Adrian Belew band, The Bears. Belew has already signed it, and I’d figured Drucker would just scrawl across all of them, but instead he carefully fit his signature above Belew’s—so that he wouldn’t cover his artwork.
We lost one of the absolute giants of art yesterday, Mort Drucker. His work defined Mad Magazine, with his pastiches of films and his caricatures of fil stars and celebritries simply unparalled. He could compress a feature film down into 6 pages of hilarious visual shots... and in most cases his pastiches were usually much better than the actual films! His work is incredible and a constant source of inspiration and joy to me. If you want to learn how to tell a story, look at his work. Thank you Mort, for your beautiful art and incredible sense of humour. #mortdrucker #madmagazine #arthero #art #Illustration https://www.instagram.com/p/B-zwOf9otR-s9cAUP70p4SY2G6F9Gg-mPW7H9A0/?igshid=4k6aiygq4bn0
... [sketchbook adjustment sesh] Possible Fanzine Cover - process for something maybe to cover the contents of some of my current & ongoing output. Thinking of following a MAD Magazine kinda template with fake adverts, articles, whatever... drew from some Jamie & Mort sources & kinda combined them in this tribute to the Mountain short film & the Gorillaz Artbook (which I just encountered) [Col Erase / Mechanical Pencil / Ink / Cleaned Up & Colored in TVPaint] <discovering a lot of Cracker Island for the first time too>
