it started off innocent. you'd show up to the paddock for oscar's race and the media would find you, ask you questions about who you wanted to win, which was more than obviously oscar, what you'd been wearing, how excited you'd been about watching the race, and stuff like that.
it was until you spoke about how happy seeing oscar happy makes you in an interview for a chanel photoshoot you did that the media had been anything but normal about you.
now, you can recite the whole thing in your head. the second the interviewer asked you what your motive in life was. your practically immediate response to him by saying oscar being happy and satisfied with his life. the collective 'aww''s from behind the camera. and of course, oscar blushing as he watched you from the side with the filming crew.
and it was just a few months into your relationship.
walking into the monaco paddock, hand in hand with oscar on media day, like the two of you had been since 2023.
after the rumours had been confirmed by oscar when he accidentally forgot to set his instagram story of you two baking cookies on valentine's day to close friends.
mclaren admin had followed you the moment they spotted you two. "hi yn," the lady whose name you'd been unaware of spoke, completely ignoring your boyfriend who was side-staring at the phone camera she'd been holding a little too close to your face for his comfort.
"hi," you smiled back softly. she smiled back.
"everyone wants to know, will you be here this sunday to watch oscar race?"
"oh, i wish." you replied, your expression softened at the reminder that you would not be in attendance for oscar's race. "i have a photoshoot in orlando the same time as his race."
"well, i'm sure the drivers will be devastated then."
oscar thought for a moment. then he spoke. "me. i will be devastated. she's my girlfriend, after all. not the other drivers." she nodded again.
"so.. yn, what is the photoshoot for?" she asked. you glanced at oscar, who had a growing smirk on his face.
"it's for skims." you said gently.
her eyes widened. "really?"
you nodded. "yeah, they've got this super cute new bodysuit. it comes in a few colors but i'm modeling the white one. it's the cutest thing ever. and oscar lik- oscar listened the whole thirty minutes i spent talking about it." you corrected yourself at the end.
the media would not perceive you as the person they did if you'd just finished that sentence.
she laughed a little, then nodded, thanked you both and walked off.
"she was a little close to you, no?" oscar spoke, his tone gentle but serious.
you shrugged. "no big deal, they just need content." he glanced at you for a moment, then turned back to continue his pace while walking.
"yn!" another voice said. this one recognizable.
"hi lando!" you waved, to which he waved back. the two of you were just centimetres away from oscar's driver room before lando had distracted you.
oscar groaned at the fact that he would not be getting to sit down in the next five minutes, knowing you and lando were like middle school girls gossiping about who's boyfriend was better at basketball.
you squeezed his hand as a gesture for him to settle down.
he did, and pursed his lips into a small smile in lando's direction. lando smiled back.
so you and lando spent at least 10 minutes talking about stuff, still walking with oscar.
when you got to oscar's driving room, he shut lando out and just hugged you. in two seconds he was pecking kisses all over your face softly. "you are so talkative." he huffed, but then just smiled at you. you smiled back, then just kissed his lips softly, leaning into his hug.

that day of june 7, you'd been the trending topic on twitter and instagram since the drivers and their respective girlfriends/wives arrived to the paddock, just you missing.
as oscar walked into the paddock, fans began to notice you'd been gone. no blonde sweetheart by his side, attached at his hip. fans even screamed at oscar to ask where you were. he didn't answer, just pressed his lips together in an awkward smile and gave them a polite nod and wave. but they kept screaming.
a little more down the paddock, oscar stopped to sign stuff. a teenage girl, 17, maybe, had asked oscar a question while he was signing a cap for her. "where's yn?" he had heard, her french accent drifting out of her mouth.
oscar smiled at the mention of his girlfriend. "she is working, actually. little suprise job.. i like it a lot, i think you guys will too. but i like it more."
the teenage girl smiled at him. nothing more, just a smile back and a nod. "can you tell her i said hi?" she asked.
oscar nodded, then kept signing stuff for other fans. one had a poster of your most recent modeling job with chanel. he furrowed his brows at the fan, but noticed it had been another teenage girl, younger this time, and signed it anyway. he'd definitely be telling you about that later.
he went on to place in 5th, not his best, but not his worst. he knew in the back of his mind, if you were there, he could have done better. as soon as he cooled down, got to his drivers room, and taken out the lunch you'd packed him before you left, he called you. he kept you on the phone until he went to the team debrief, but not until after lando had a thirty minute conversation with you.
lando had told you that he saw a bunch of videos of fans saying the sport was boring without you on the paddock. you laughed, oscar rolled his eyes, but smiled. because well, he was also bored without you.
lando also said he noticed about a quarter of the fans on their phones during the race and he figured it was because you weren't there.
you said that's a waste of money to just go to see one of the drivers girlfriends, oscar said he'd pay any amount of money to see you, and you and lando laughed because it was cheesy.
lando still hasn't let that one comment down.
