... [sketchbook adjustment sesh] Possible Fanzine Cover - process for something maybe to cover the contents of some of my current & ongoing output. Thinking of following a MAD Magazine kinda template with fake adverts, articles, whatever... drew from some Jamie & Mort sources & kinda combined them in this tribute to the Mountain short film & the Gorillaz Artbook (which I just encountered) [Col Erase / Mechanical Pencil / Ink / Cleaned Up & Colored in TVPaint] <discovering a lot of Cracker Island for the first time too>
Prototype head sculpts for unreleased KidRobot figures. These were listed on eBay by a KidRobot employee, but were later taken down before sale - turns out, he wanted to keep them after all. Can't blame him.
These figures were based on the Phase One "jumping" illustrations, seen here translated into 360 model sheets. A SpaceMonkey model sheet also exists, though it's unknown whether or not he was ever sculpted.
Laika Come Home
All mouths will be fed. Twenty years ago next month saw the release of Laika Come Home, a complete and total transfiguration of Gorillaz s/t debut as remixed in dub. Spacemonkeyz (dj Darren Galea) is the controller, and the results are nothing short of sublime. At times haunting, at times ethereal, the dozen tracks absolutely float featuring limber contributions from the likes of U Brown, Tina Weymouth and Terry Hall. Not unlike Bill Laswell’s ambient-dub interpretation of the Bob Marley catalog, Laika is the rare instance of a remix album feeling as essential as the core material its culled from.
A radio edit of “A Fistful of Peanuts” by Spacemonkeyz (a.k.a. a dub remix of “Clint Eastwood”) from Spacemonkeyz Radio! It’s remixed with an ad for the Gorillaz self-titled album, too.

Gorillaz Vs. Spacemonkeyz - Laika Come Home. And there’s the full dub remix album. It’s ancillary listening for the first record, but it’s actually a pretty good remix album. And there’s a fair chance that at the time it was getting a bunch of ten year olds into dub music. So the better.
