(Mun note: figured I might as well post the rest of the stuff I’ve got for my Mortycest AU)
When his Rick died Morghain discovered, to his horror, that without his knowledge or consent Rick had implanted him with a head case, a storage compartment deep in his cyberbrain, which contained all of Rick’s memories and knowledge. Moray’s mind was flooded with this information, and was incapacitated for days.
Morghain recovered enough to attend his reassignment trial with the Council of Ricks. His Rick was a prominent member of the Citadel, and Morty himself was actually one many valued for his cybernetic augmentations. There were doubtless many Mortyless Ricks who would love to have him as a new sidekick.
Morty however had other plans. He had trusted his Rick, and even though he perhaps wasn’t the most gentle or tender-hearted grandfather he still cared for the old man. What Rick did was a betrayal of his trust. Morty was well-aware of how many Ricks, even the Citadel itself, tended to treat Mortys. They were tools and quite expendable to most Ricks. Morty didn’t want to be anyone else’s tool ever again. What’s more he didn’t want to see other Morty’s used the way he was. Thanks to his grandfather’s memories stored in his head, perhaps he could change things.
Morghain stood up before the council, and said that he would not be any Rick’s Morty. Using his cyberbrain he showed the entire council that he now held the entirety of his Rick’s knowledge in his own head. Everything Rick ever knew he now knew. Everything Rick ever created he could now create. If anything, he was a Rick now.
The Council Chamber was in an uproar. Morty stood his ground, daring the Ricks to challenge his claim. All the Mortys in the chamber were equally stunned. In the aftermath of the Evil Rick catastrophe there was talk among Mortys of wanting better treatment, especially those who had rallied with Morty C-137 to challenge their captor. At this point though it was only whispers. Seeing a Morty stand up to the Council shocked the chamber, regardless of whether they were a Rick or a Morty.
The shock redoubled as Morghain declared that as someone with Rick brainwaves he now needed a Morty. He would continue to serve the Citadel, as he was a great asset, but only under a condition of being treated like a Rick.
He declared that he wanted his Morty to be Mortea. He wanted to protect Mortea from a Rick who could easily abuse or misuse him. He didn’t want to see the dreamy gardener to lose his purity at the hands of anyone. He’d make sure he never got hurt again.
Meet Morghain and Mortea, my two Mortys for my Mortycest AU.
They’re still in development but I wanted to share their initial sketches with ya. (I believe all Mortys go by Morty, but their full names vary greatly, like how 2spooky Morty is actually named Mordecai.)
Morghain is a Citadel Morty—serious and diligent in his actions. Any softness he once had was replaced in his line of duty. He and his Rick spent large amounts of time there preserving the general peace. His Rick specialized in cybernetic enhancements, and Morty agreed to let him use them on himself. This Morty is a low-augmentation cyborg. Most notably he has cybereyes and a cyberbrain. The cybereyes allow him to have an HUD and analyze anything visually, and the cyberbrain lets him access computers remotely, even connect to the internet. He’s got some other enhancements, but these are the most important. The only visible signs of his augmentation are the ports on the back of his neck and his cybereyes. (the M0rt1 is a joke I couldn't resist. Those 1s and 0s)
Mortea is a dreamer with wide eyes, freckles, and wild russet hair. His expressions range from sleepy to happy, but he’s always always serene. He comes from a family of horticulturalists. His mom is a botanist (and actual tree surgeon), his dad strives to hold together the family flower shop and plant nursery but still seems to kill whatever he touches (he does alright with the business side of it though) and his sister is learning to take over the family business (while growing a not-insignificant amount of “herbs” on the side). His Rick is a horticultural genius, skilled in growing new types of plants, many of which are varying degrees of sentient and most of which are vary degrees of dangerous. Or, at least he was.
His grandfather was killed by Evil Rick and Mortea himself was abducted and used in the Morty Matrix shield apparatus Evil Rick was using to hide from the Council. He still has the scars on his sides from the ordeal. After his rescue (and treatment for emotional trauma, physical trauma, and general malnutrition) Mortea remained on the Citadel for reassignment.
During his time there he put his green thumb to good use and began to take over care of the plants and gardens on the Citadel. Previously this had been handled by robots but under Mortea’s care everything was bursting in bloom and lush and green the likes of which most Rick’s, even the Elder Ricks, had never seen on the Citadel.
This caught the attention of Morghain who often wandered the Citadel in his off-hours. He got to know the slow-talking, gardner Morty. Morghain found in him a serenity he’d never felt before, and a bright shining purity the likes of which he’d never encountered. After a stressful day of work or a long day in the lab getting augments Morghain often sought out Mortea for companionship, even if it was just chatting or sitting around in a garden. Morghain valued this Morty’s peaceful way of life and his pure outlook. For perhaps the first time, Morghain had a friend and he very much wanted to protect it.
(still trying to decide if I should have these two on this blog or give them their own, for now here they are)
