mental health deserves more than a day.
Getting better, brushing your teeth, feeling excited about being alive are some of the hardest things to do while you are struggling with an illness. But every time you get up and do the things that need to be done, you win. You win because you decided to keep going without giving in to the tempting end.
The end is so tempting at times. Not having to deal with stress or create anymore ever again... shit sounds great, but it isn’t.
You want that. As much as you think you don’t, you want to cause stress and you want to fuck up. You know why? You want those irritating and earth rattling inconveniences and issues because you learn; and when you learn you improve.
As human beings our only defensive weapon we have is our mind. We where born without fur, claws, a thick hide, or skeletons built for speed. We where made with the most complex organic organ to ever exist.
Your brain is different. It’s unique and it’s brilliant. Your illness does not make it anything less. If anything it makes you stronger. It is an adaptation that you have. People with mental illnesses are galaxies ahead of those who do not have any. We are more sensitive, we see the value in the little things, we are more aware, we can tolerate a great deal of pain. We are strong even if we suffer/struggle in silence.
Your illness does not distort you, it highlights your strengths. It challenges you to fight. It hurts and will cause you more pain than pleasure, but fuck it.
You can take that pain and create anything you want. Allow your issues and struggles to guide you.
You want life (even if you hate it) because you can/do make it more beautiful. You create and have a story to share. There are people who will listen, but you must speak your truth so that others can to. And love yourself for it. For all the things that are different. Love how it mocks you and how you prove it wrong. Love how you only get stronger and it gets weaker. Love that your illness is making you a better you. One that you appreciate because you fought so hard for it. Then help those around you see it too.
p.s The louder we are the more they will hear. We deserve more than a day for all that shit we push through.
