***long post*** . Watching and listening to my littles play & laugh in the pool on their last Sunday before school starts. . Call me mushy, overly sensitive or whatever but I’m hyper aware of the fast moving times and how not so “little” they actually are. 😭 . I’m extra grateful today to have avoided a situation where this time & moment would have looked much different. . We were going to take our 5 year old school shoe shopping this afternoon. On a crazy whim, we decided to go to an open house and check out a random house in our neighborhood first. . During that time that we were at the house (and not the mall), a chaotic scene took place at the mall. A mall that is about a mile from my house. . It ended up not being an active shooter situation but at the moment, it was irrelevant. The event, in an instant caused panic, pandemonium and outright terror through the mall. Screaming, hiding in closets and store storage rooms, running out of the mall into neighborhoods, people getting trampled, screaming, people leaving their belongings and cars behind, fleeing for their lives and to safety. . The idea of being through that with my BABY? I can’t even. 😩 . He still remembers a car he saw engulfed in flames over 2 years ago on the side of the road and how scared he was witnessing that. He would have been traumatized today. I would have been traumatized. 😥 . What a horrible situation. For us to all be on edge and be TERRIFIED for our lives while school shopping? Going to the movies, going to school? Seriously? . Take all my money online retailers because I have NO desire to take my littles into the mall anytime soon. #fthat . Tonight I’m not only thinking of those families and communities who have lost loved ones to actual shootings, most recently in El Paso & Dayton, but now also all those who were there today, including many friends, who are so shaken that they most definitely will have different feelings towards malls and other crowded places. Where every loud sound incites this reaction...is this our new normal? .
