Regular Show ended last night and I'm still bloody sad about it. Time for some therapeutic fan art to calm my nerves. There's most likely stronger finales in history, but RS hit hard for me personally because these were cartoon characters I loved and identified with (yes, even a hot-tempered gumball machine) for 6 years and counting. The story wrapped everything up perfectly, but it's difficult to let go to a series where 'anything goes' to the tune of a catchy '80s hit. Not to mention giant robots piloted by baby ducks. My hats off to JG Quintel and his cast n' crew for 260+ quality (to me, anyway) episodes.

I wrote another thing...but fo' sure it's the people following me who are at fault :) Cause I never expected to have any :) (I must be doing something right?)
Um. Part 1? Oh. Warning. Au-ish haha but clearly Mordeson :)Â
It was too early for this shit. Really, it was. Benson gave a low, aggravated groan as he watched MuscleMan try to fix the lawn mower he destroyed by complete accident. Skips, seeing Benson's frustrated, placed his hand on the tiny shoulder. When the gumball machine looked up questioningly, the yeti offered a smile.Â
"Benson, why don't we take a coffee-break?"Â
Benson opened his mouth to protest, but seeing the stern look in Skips' eyes told him not to even bother. Reluctantly, he agreed. They walked out of the park and headed towards the coffee shop MuscleMan and HFG always talked about. Something about their friends giving them a discount... Not that he cared for it.Â
"Skips, I appreciate what you're trying to do, but I can't take a break. I need to get back to the park." At Benson's words, Skips rolled his eyes, only causing the man to glow an annoyed red. "I'm serious!"Â
The coffee shop came into view. Skips held the door open for Benson, a chuckle passing his lips when he noticed his friend's look. "Humor me. We'll have one cup of coffee, then get back to work."Â
"One cup!" Benson said sternly as he walked in. The shop was empty, save for two goofy looking employees behind the counter. One was a blue jay and the other a raccoon. They were clearly bored and taking advantage that no one was in. The blue jay was typing away on his phone while the raccoon had his eyes glued to a handheld game console. Already, Benson felt himself scowling at the sight. Slackers, he thought, as they went to the front.
The blue jay immediately noticed their presence when they reached the counter. With a sheepish smile, he put his phone away and stepped up. "Hey there. What can I get you guys?"
Again, Benson found himself disliking the blue jay. The name tag read Mordecai. Even his named screamed 'hipster'. At least he was more polite than the raccoon. What did his name tag say? With a squint on his eyes, he read 'Rigby'. Suddenly, Benson was even more impatient and just wanted to get out. Quickly, he gave his and Skips order.
"Yeah, just two coffees. One with sugar and the other black."
Mordecai 'hmm'd' and with a nod, turned his back to them and started to prep their coffee. Skips pulled on Benson's arm and lead him to a table to sit down. Clearly, Benson wanted to protest but the yeti shut him up with a look. Benson huffed in annoyance and began to drum his fingers against the table, his mind in a whirl.
Skips began in a placating tone, "Benson, you're going to give yourself a heart attack with the way you're stressing yourself out. It's not healthy."Â
Despite rolling his eyes, Benson was touched at Skips' concern. Realizing he had been rude the entire time, he took a deep breath and forced himself to calm down. "I know, I'm sorry. It's just Mr. Mellard has been a complete douchebag more so lately than before. I don't need anymore mistakes to cause him to fire all of us just out of spite."
"Stressing out won't help the situation."
"Someone has to care!"
"We do care. You just need to relax a little. Otherwise, you won't be any good, not even to yourself."
With a sigh, Benson caved. "You have a point." Looking up, he realized they still hadn't received their coffees. "What's taking that guy so long with our coffees? Ugh. I should have known. I bet that slacker is in the back hanging out or something. They should get fired!"
His words must have had the desired effect, because the next thing they knew, Mordecai came out with two steaming cups of coffee. He handed the black to Skips, and the coffee with one sugar to Benson. At Benson's look, the blue jay laughed lightly.
"Not yours, huh? Sorry, I figured the one with sugar was for you." He switched the cups. "You looking all sweet and all." Benson's eyes darted up to the blue jay's, his mouth agape. Mordecai grinned and winked at him before walking back to the front to chat with his friend.
Skips picked up his coffee and had a sip, blatantly ignoring his friend/boss' outraged expression. "Not bad." he commented casually. Inwardly, he counted to three. Then...
"Did...Did you hear what he said?! Why would he say that?" Without meaning to, Benson blushed. He felt...embarrassed. The way the blue jay had winked at him and gave him that sly smile made his stomach feel like there were butterflies in it.Â
"I'm sure he thought it was clever. You do have gumballs."Â
"Oh ha-ha." Benson muttered sarcastically before drinking his coffee. Surprisingly, it wasn't bad. Maybe Skips was right. He must have overreacted. The blue jay looked like he took things lightly. Feeling eyes on him, he looked up and noticed Skips staring at him. "...What?"Â
Skips gave an all knowing smile. "He is kind of cute."Â
"Sure, I guess, if you like them looking like a total slacking hipster." Benson said it as if it was some kind of venom, but Skips only gave him a condescending smile. "Shut up Skips."Â
"I didn't say anything."Â
The rest of the time was in silence. To Benson's surprise, Mordecai came back to check on them. He walked up to their table and asked, "Do you want a refill?"Â
"No thanks," Benson said immediately, but Skips lifted his cup and asked for a refill on his. Benson narrowed his eyes at the yeti and muttered, "Traitor. You said one cup!"Â
Mordecai quickly came back with extra coffee and the sugar for Skips. As he poured the coffee, he asked casually, "So, I didn't hear your name earlier. What did you say it was again?" He looked to Benson questioningly.Â
Benson, slightly annoyed, furrowed his brows. "I never gave you my name." he didn't remember being asked for it.Â
"Sure you did!" Mordecai nodded in affirmative, pouring the sugar in Skips cup. Skips looked entertained. "Remember? It was when you ordered your coffee."Â
"No, I didn't."Â
With a laugh, Mordecai lifted his wings up in surrender. "Okay, you caught me. You didn't say it earlier, but I'd love to hear it now."Â
At those words, Benson felt himself flush in surprise and squirm in his chair. "Uh.. Why?"Â
Mordecai shrugged. "It's good to get to know our customers. So? I'm Mordecai, but I figured you knew that from looking at this." he gestured to his name tag.
Unable to help himself, Benson laughed a little. The blue jay was kind of adorable. "Yeah. I'm...Benson." He gestured to Skips. "This is Skips."Â
Mordecai and Skips shook hands, and then Mordecai offered his to Benson's. Clearly taken aback, it took Benson a moment to reach out and shake the blue jay's hand. "Benson and Skips...Nice to meet you." Their hands lingered a little longer than necessary, before Mordecai finally pulled away and walked back to the counter.Â
"That was weird," Benson commented casually. Skips didn't seem to care. When he finished his coffee, they stood up. Rigby finally stepped out to clear off their table. As they left, Benson saw Mordecai leaning back against the counter, typing on his phone again. Before he could get angry about it, Mordecai looked up at him and gave him a nice smile. "Oh, don't worry about paying. It's on the house."Â
"What?" Benson shook his head. What was Mordecai doing, giving them free coffee.
Mordecai's smile quickly turned into a grin. "Loyal customers get their first coffee on the house." It was complete bullshit and Benson knew it, but he couldn't force himself to say anything. "See you sometime soon!" Mordecai called as he waved them goodbye.
As they stepped out and walked back towards the park, Benson noticed he had completely forgotten about the park. His mind had been so occupied with the blue jay, his stress and worries had disappeared for a bit. That caught him by complete surprise. Skips looked too satisfied, almost like a cat that got the canary. Benson sent him a glare, which was quickly brushed off. As the park came back to view, Benson wondered about getting coffee again with Skips tomorrow...after all, what other way to start the day?Â
