Daily Regular Show sketch #9. 05.23.2024.
[ID: Cloudy Jay, a cloud girl from regular show in a striped tank top. /end ID]
Finished my Regular Show rewatch. It's as funny as I remembered from when I was a kid and I enjoyed watching through it from the start. I loved seeing the slow development of the Park Crew from Season 1 to how they were by the end of Season 8. It feels realistic and it's wholesome to see.
Having watched the show here and there since it came out, watching them develop feels like they're part of your family you grew up with and you stick with them regardless of their flaws and screw ups. Mordecai especially feels representative of this and has the bigger arc on screen.
He's obsessed with Margaret for superficial reasons and is fixated on the idea that getting with her will fix all his problems. This is realistic to a depressive guy in their early 20s and it's fun to see him slowly realise he's better off as friends with her and it was something that he didn't need.
I also liked the CJ arc as her relationship with Mordecai was very, right person wrong time. They were basically made for each other and actually made each other happy, but Mordecai was still latched onto the idea of Margaret, that he kept screwing things up once she came back into the picture.
Rigby's development from the lazy slacker who had an unstable lifestyle to getting a girlfriend, Eileen, going back to school and slowly trying to reclaim a normal life. Muscle Man realising what he has with Starla and comes to terms with his emotions better.
Benson growing to actually care for Mordecai and Rigby as friends, as he starts to open up and explain why he struggles so much with being open and keeping calm when it comes to them. It all just is really fun to watch from the start and to the end of the show.
Hi Five Ghost and Skips stay the same, but they're supposed to be the stable figures in the group everyone relies on and this makes sense to me. Pops was always the heart of the show though. Regardless of how he was treated, he loves the group as friends and wants the best for them.
Pops' sacrifice at the end of the show is thematically perfect, but still makes me cry. He was the heart of the group and by then they didn't 'need' him anymore, but it doesn't change how much he made their lives happier. The ending is bittersweet due to this.
I love Regular Show a lot; it formed a lot of my current sense of humour and was something that helped me as a lot as a kid along with Adventure Time, The Amazing World of Gumball for example. I'm really excited to see what the new episodes will be like and I enjoyed rewatching it again older.
