Okay yall i’m tired of seeing people misunderstanding morbin time for books vs movies and what I actually meant by giving Certain Books the Morbius TreatmentTM
It means don’t fucking read it. Don’t even hate read it. No piracy, no anything. Not even wiki-searching. I to this day still have no idea what Morbius is about.
Secondly: releases of failed enterprises will only waste money for everyone involved, which is good! I’m not encouraging yall to hype it, god knows i want this shit buried, but yall do not seem to understand that spending money on a release no one bought cost millions of dollars that were never recouped. Unsold merch, unwatched movies, unread books are all a loss to whoever releases them.
Secondly, authors do not gain anything from a release if the release does not sell. If they receive an advance, it’s already been received. If they receive royalties, that is contingent entirely on sales. And no publisher likes an author who doesn’t sell.
More importantly, book publishers, even big ones, are on a much tighter budget than a movie studio megacorp like Disney-MCU. They will not do a reprint for a book that does not sell.
That is why “do not do the Amazon buy-return” thing is so critical, because it is unclear what counts toward sales. So once again for the back, if you want to successfully boycott an author: do not fucking read their books.
@spaceshipkat and @battlestar-royco know more about publishing than I do, so feel free to confirm or correct anything I’ve said. Everyone else is on the thinnest ice
