Giant Sunwheel of Gold Plates Adorns Festival in Portugal
A sunwheel measuring eight meters in diameter is currently on display at the annual Festa de São João do Porto (Festival of St John of Porto). Built by the Portuguese-Italian collective Moradavaga, and taking inspiration from traditional water mills, the sunwheel consists of hunders of gold plates, each capable of moving independently. The interactive piece also allows passersby to play with the sunwheel by rotating it. The manipulation from the environment and people produce “changing effects throughout the day and night, according to wind and light variations and the speed given by users.”
