Just wanna apologize for the inconsistent posting these past two weeks.the move is on Monday so things are hectic af right now, but I promise once I settle in we’ll be back to our regularly scheduled programming. But as long as we’re changing it up, here’s October’s #monthlylesson card, #justice. I feel like I could talk about this card forever honestly. Like the high priestess, justice is “2” card numerologically (11= 1+1) and 2 is the number of gestation, duality, relation, and counterpoint. But where the HP receives information, justice weighs that info against itself. Justice is the fulcrum from which the lever is hung. It is a card that does not exist in a vacuum, but rather hinges on being in relation to some “other”. In order for the scales to even function, there needs to be a point and a counterpoint in conversation with one another. Fitting that the ruling sign of this card is libra, the sign of relationship. As these tipping, heavy scales balance on a single, well-placed point, we are reminded that justice is a pivotal card bc 1: maintaining this very fine point of equilibrium is a lifelong practice as relationship requires continuous renegotiation and 2: it’s at the halfway point in the major arcana meaning it contains the stillness of being in the center of the journey. This is because Justice requires us to take full stock of our responsibilities leading up this moment, and therefore dictates how to move forward. Our next choice hinges on understanding where we are (and aren’t) implicit in the the things that have lead us here, and accepting the facts for what they are. Once we do this, we can begin to shift our reality through our future actions. In a real world sense, this card invites us to examine what our relationship to institution is, especially how we continue to contribute or choose to divest from the oppressive systems that threaten so many of us in late-stage capitalism. Tryna catch up on my #monthlylesson cards finally! From this Virgo to you, here’s September’s card: If the #strength card shows us who we are when our compassion is tested, then #thehermit is here to show us who we are in the silence, when the distraction of external stimuli is stripped away. There is knowledge in stillness, if we can move past the desire for distraction. The hermit is ruled by Virgo, whose words are “I analyze”. Virgos are masters at understanding a concept in its entirety, at breaking down the parts of said concept and diluting it to its essence. This is also what makes them excellent holistic healers. In this way, the hermit is a card of deep introspection and of a stripping away of something to its essence. This is why the hermit climbs to the mountain’s peak: they are trying to understand the entire landscape to better get a grip on where they land in it. It reveals how we talk to ourselves, how we digest, how we act when confronted with ourselves without the veneer of performance or the threat of being seen. The hermit asks us to evaluate and reevaluate how we treat ourselves when we have new information to process. Trauma, triggers, systematic racism, and internalized toxic behaviors. Confronting these concepts through real events can leave us scarred and unable to objectively process, but the hermit reminds us that we can start to if we get a better view. When alone, we can scale a mountain and see our place in the landscape. If integrity is doing the right thing when no one is watching, then this is a card that invites us into deep integrity by revealing what our relationship to ourselves is when we have internal work to tend to and dialogues to run through. So when you get this card, remember that you get to dictate how you process, and whatever that may look like, I hope you’re kind to yourself through it🌺✨🌙💖😘 . . Hola mis amores! back at it again with this months #monthlylesson card, #thechariot. Man I’m still unfolding my understanding of this card. It’s a doozy. The chariot is the last card in the first line of the major arcana, which is the line of the development of the self. We spend the previous 6 cards (not counting the fool) mapping out a basic understanding of who we are and our values in the world. Cards 1 & 2 teach us about action vs listening, 3 & 4 about holding space and taking it up. 5 & 6 teach us about our value system and our place in it, and here we are. The chariot comes at the end of understanding of self. Yet it’s the first time in the deck where the name and focus on the card isn’t on a person, but on a vessel. That’s because now that we know ourselves and our place in the world, we have direction and a goal. And to reach it, you need the vessel, ergo the chariot. Now let’s take a second to talk about it’s astrological correspondent, Cancer 🦀. Crabs have an oh so soft center that goes great with butter. If they walked around like that, they’d be extinct. But they’ve adapted to have a tough exoskeleton, legs that can walk sideways (fuck off predators!) and sharp claws to fuck u up with. They understand themselves, so they develop a vessel that best suits their needs and goals. And yet they are the vessel. And here’s the thing: so are you. You are both the rider and the vessel, and even the conflicting beasts that draw it towards its goal. So when you get this card in a reading, think: What does your vessel look like, especially in relation to your destination? Does it have the stamina or tune-ups necessary to get you there? Can you find a way to hold the many sides of yourself in compassion and harmony (at least to get there)? Or do you need make some adjustments? How can you develop the most helpful habits to work with your flaw. How can you create the best environment to support your strengths? On today’s #monthlylesson, we’re gonna talk about what has rapidly become one of my favorite fucking cards in the Tarot, #thelovers. I think of this card less as a choice or romantic partner & more so a powerful, holy reflection of who we are and who we were. Think of its ruling sign, ♊️. Gemini is a personal air sign (as opposed to interpersonal♎️ or communal♒️) which means it deals with the duality of the self through communication. The play of light and shadow is present here, bringing things forward through communication that would otherwise have remained forgotten in the dark. This is an excellent springboard to the Lovers card. I tend to get this card a lot when I’ve forgotten a pivotal aspect of myself & need to be reminded of it through example. In my experience this forgotten aspect is usually rooted in some inner child work that needs to be done. I actually had a pretty intense run in with the Lovers a couple weeks ago. I’m a singer/songwriter & realized a couple months ago that I haven’t been enjoying making music at all. The process used to bring me a lot of joy but I grew pretty serious about it a year or two ago & it’s slowly become really tedious. A couple weeks ago, I ran into an interview of one of my very favorite artists, Mitski. When asked what her process was like, she said she wrote from a lyrical place first, a capella, which is not an answer I ever hear from songwriters. I cried listening to this interview, because I used to make up songs as a little kid allllll the time, a capella. & in college when I wrote my first *“real”* song, I wrote it the same way. & then I got told by a lot of people that I shouldn’t write that way, & I became embarrassed about it. In some ways, that first song is the most melodically sound thing I’ve ever written. It took listening to an artist I adore talk about their process to remind myself that the way I used to write came naturally to me & felt deeply satisfying. It was a holy reflection, a Lovers moment.
