Piff’s Magical Nostalgia Journey

Everyone’s favorite duo known as Corey and Oats went on many adventures together as a duo and with their gang of friends especially with Piff. Recently Piff had been shown that Mel had made numerous nostalgia based pictures of her life in England and one day he decided to ask her if she could show him and the others what those experiences were like.
After morning tea they all gathered in the lounge as Mel pulled out the ‘Magic Bedbox’ from the bedroom and used it to make a magical portal appear right next to the kitchen table in the kitchen. ‘Oh, there it is, the magical portal.’ ‘Yeah, you are going to really enjoy this.’ Piff could not wait to see where the portal would take them.
They all jumped through the portal and arrived in a special area called the ‘nostalgia dimension’, where Mel began a special tour - the area first took them all the way to Mel’s old home in England which was in Frimley Green, the gang all took on the style of Mr Men characters and gave themselves Mr Men inspired nicknames e.g Corey’s was Mr Microbe, Oats was Little Miss Oatsie, Piff was Mr Puffer. As they all looked around in Mel’s old house and found Mel’s very first original gang of friends including Lulu the koala.
Mel explained that her very first friend that she adopted was Paddington as she showed the gang a Paddington plush with a love heart in his hand that read ‘to Mel, love from James’, she showed them a koala plush wearing a Daddy and The Dorks t shirt which represented James. ‘This place is wonderful.’ ‘Yeah, I can see why you have very fond nostalgic memories of this place.’
Piff looked at a book Mel had on her shelf called ‘Tales of Jill and Mel’ which was all about Mel’s life living in England with Jill and James and he read it, and he also found himself being fascinated by how past Mel’s adventures seemed to be so rural yet deeply fascinating in their own way. Mel pulled out a special album she called ‘Mel’s Very First Fandom Album’, which showed all of the fandoms she was a fan of as a young koala.
She showed off her mug which was a CITV themed mug as she showed pages of the album to the gang which included logos for Fireman Sam, Pingu, Postman Pet, Teletubbies, Tweenies, Alphabet Castle and other old favorites as well as the section of portraits of ‘These Made My Childhood’ which included portraits of George and Zippy from Rainbow, Matthew Corbett, a group of Farthing Wood animal characters, and Dave Benson Phillips. ‘Hey, that’s Dave.’ ‘Yes Piff, that is Dave Benson Phillips.’ ‘We got to meet him a couple of times and went on Get Your Own Back.’ ‘Oh yes we certainly did, and it was certainly a childhood dream of mine to meet one of my favorite hosts.’ Mel laughed.
Aiyido the beholder used some magic to bring a model of the bus from Playdays to life and made it drive around in a magical playset. ‘Wow, this playbus model you made is amazing, and it even plays the sound.’ ‘Yeah.’ Corey and Oats looked at each-other…’Oh we definitely remember Playdays alright, Mel told us that creepy fingerprint farm owl and farmer came from that show.’ ‘Yeah dad used to tease me with that so much. I was foolish back then, i’m very sorry.’ ‘Aaaw don’t be sorry.’ Piff comforted Mel before they continued on and he saw a model of Noo Noo from Teletubbies.
Aiyido picked up a Quasimodo plushie and a Philoctetes plush…’You never told us you had a gang of Disney character friends.’ ‘Oh yes, I went to Disneyland Paris twice. I was a star in a parade and got to meet Quasi and Clopin. And of course Hercules was always one of my favorites.’ Mel picked up the puppets of Soo, Sooty and Sweep. ‘That panda looks familiar, where we have seen her before?’ ‘That’s my friend Soo.’ ‘You know Soo?’ ‘Well of course I do, I saw Sooty live once and have Soo as one of my closest friends.’
‘She looks so cute.’ ‘Don’t let her cuteness fool you, she’s tough as nails.’ Piff looked at a Pingu plushie. ‘Is this guy related to the penguins at Kelly Tarlton’s?’ ‘He could be, I mean he IS a penguin.’ This was followed by the gang all having lunch together before Mel used some magic to take them all up to where James used to study.
She showed them all the magic stereo and picked up a Michael Jackson CD. ‘Guys, this is where I discovered Michael Jackson!’, she played the CD by having it float into the magic stereo as Billie Jean started playing. ‘Oh wow, this is truly magical.’ ‘This is the very first MJ song I ever heard and what made me obsessed with him.’
This was followed by Piff discovering some signs for cafes, one for Pizza Planet from the Toy Story franchise, one depicting an anthropomorphic moose wearing a chef outfit with ‘come to the caribou kitchen’ written on it, and one that was firefighter themed with ‘Criddlington’s Kitchen’ written on it. Mel explained the second former was a reference to the CITV show ‘Carribou Kitchen’ and that the latter was a Fireman Sam homage, specifically making a nod to Elvis Criddlington (her favorite character from the show) and his habit for cooking terribly.
She took them all into the living room of this special place, which had a big television and snack table. She turned on the television and ‘Fox Kids’ was shown on screen, she explained that throughout her later years as a koala-girl she loved watching the shows on there and she had of course been introduced to Power Rangers, Masked Rider and Beetleborgs prior to getting Fox Kids but she knew those shows were on there. She showed them her Biker Mice and Captain Simian tribute fan-art albums and explained that she never missed an episode of either show.
Aiyido the beholder was fascinated by the programs he was seeing on the screen, especially Mystic Knights, Power Rangers, Digimon, Goosebumps, Ace Ventura, Sailor Moon and others - Mel then told him that sometimes during the night, Fox Kids would show previous seasons of Power Rangers as well as classic 80s cartoons. The screen showed an episode of the animated series ‘M.A.S.K’ as well as ‘Real Ghostbusters’, Aiyido got excited when he saw the Dungeons and Dragons cartoon on the tv. ‘Oooh, this show is my favorite.’ ‘You don’t mind that the beholder in the show is a villain, Aiyido?’ ‘Of course not.’
This was followed by Mel introducing them to one of Jill’s relatives, who was an animated anthropomorphic Aardman styled dog resembling Gromit. ‘Bridgette? Is that you?’ ‘Yeah, hi Corey, hi Oatsie.’ ‘She knows you guys?’ ‘Of course she does, we visited her every Christmas with Mel.’ ‘You should show me those adventures sometime.’ Piff added.
Followed by a special nostalgic trip to Woking, where the gang all got to look around in the mall and the first place they visited was the french cafe, followed by a trip to Toys R Us where they saw all sorts of action figures and toys including Pokemon toys. Piff looked over at Pikachu who was his best friend and part of the gang and exclaimed…’Hey Pikachu, that’s you!’ ‘Yeah, the late 90s and 2000s were the breakout year for Pokemon including me, I became a popular icon thanks to coming all over from Japan.’
Mel looked and smiled as she saw a doll of Woody from Toy Story, affectionately calling Woody a distant family member, and Corey saw some Shrek figures by Mcfarlane toys. ‘Oh that Lord Farquaad figure was my holy grail in terms of action figures. Was never able to find ol Farqui though, at least not here.’ ‘Hey, maybe you’ll be able to find him when Shrek 5 comes out and they make toys of the characters.’ ‘Yeah, there’s always a chance.’
She showed them Spencer’s Gifts next, which had all sorts of cool fandom merchandise and prank related things as well as disco balls and figures of characters, mostly Movie Maniacs, horror characters like Chucky and The Cryptkeeper, and even South Park and Austin Powers characters. ‘Hey, I didn’t know they made toys of my absolute favorite comedy movie ever!’ Piff exclaimed. ‘Yeah, it’s a funny thing. The second movie made a lot of money in the box office and had a ton of merch, obviously it’s not a kid-friendly franchise but figures were made of the characters anyway.’ ‘That’s just hilarious and cool.’
Piff laughed as he saw a figure of the character Fat Bastard with the name ‘Fat Man’ on it…’Hey, this figure’s got the wrong name on the packaging. Isn’t it supposed to say Fat Bastard, not Fat Man?’ ‘That is quite a correct observation, Piffy. You see, there was a bit of a censorship issue. When Roger Ebert reviewed the movie he said he could not say the name of the character so he called him Obese Illegitimate Child instead, when Mcfarlane toys made figures of the characters, they avoided calling him Fat Bastard in order to keep it family friendly so they named him Fat Man on the packaging instead.’ ‘That’s silly. ‘ ‘I know.’ ‘But now I know where my sumo wrestler persona The Great Fishiki got his inspiration from.’ Piff laughed.
Which was followed by Mel using magic to take them to nostalgic places she used to go, including her old English friend’s house, where she showed them the bookshelf with the Goosebumps books as she showed them a VHS containing the ‘Teen Wolf’ animated series and ‘Count Duckula’ as well as the Thriller video. She showed them a drawing Jill did of the ventriloquist dummy character Slappy…’My mom is an artist, she made this drawing of Slappy for me when I was getting into Goosebumps. Because she knew Slappy was my favorite monster from the books.’
She then showed them the Disney Store in Oxford and explained how she would often go there for Disney merchandise, and how one time she and Jill tried to find Anastasia merchandise in there…’Back when Anastasia came out, Disney did not own Fox yet but the movie was often mistaken for a Disney movie, which was the mistake me and my mom made. Yeah, it was a 20th Century Fox property.’ ‘And now Disney owns it, right?’ ‘Why yes Oatsie, Disney owns Fox properties including Star Wars, Family Guy, The Simpsons and yes even Anastasia.’
‘Which is funny that they own The Simpsons because Simpsons made jokes about them in the past.’ Piff added. This was followed by Mel showing them Birdworld, the creek where she and Jill used to walk down, and numerous other nostalgic areas like Alton Towers and Disneyland Paris. Piff couldn’t believe he was seeing so much nostalgic magic.
Which was followed by some snacks and afternoon tea before the gang jumped through another area, this time it took them all the way to Camberly where Mel showed them what her favorite stores to go to there were such as The Entertainer, Woolworths and WHSmith. Piff and Tangie embraced as they saw everything take place. Followed by a special flight to the Singapore Airlines airport where the gang all got to sit in the plane and go on a magic flight, as Piff and Pikachu played Super Mario Brothers 2.
Followed by of something even better as they all found themselves at the hotel Mel and Jill and James stayed in while in Singapore, and they even got to experience what it’s like to live in the hotel. It wasn’t the only hotel they got to spend time in, as Mel opened up another portal and it took them to the hotel she once stayed in with Jill and James while in Mallorca, and that’s where Mel introduced the gang to Doizee the anthropomorphic ladybug.
This was followed by another fun adventure, this time they jumped through a portal that took them all the way to Mel’s old home in 28 Rosemary Adventure. They all explored the house and even watched some TV, the tv was showing a mini Simpsons marathon, and Mel picked up a Skywatch magazine from 2009. The magazine featured a movie section which talked about a vampire movie marathon consisting of the movies ‘Fright Night’ ‘Once Bitten’ ‘Love At First Bite’ and ‘Scream Blacula Scream’.
Mel recalled seeing the red-haired vampire woman wearing the white dress in the magazine and becoming obsessed with the movie and its soundtrack. ‘That red haired vampire? Turns out she’s the woman on the poster and the main hero’s love interest. Her name is Amy Peterson.’ ‘Now I know why you like horror so much.’ Aiyido quipped.
Which was followed by Pikachu walking into another Pikachu, this Pikachu however was a plus sized male anthropomorphic one with shaggy black hair who was wearing a t shirt for a band called ‘The Bug Eaters’ and carrying a Gameboy Advanced. ‘Hey guys I found another Pikachu!’ ‘That’s not any old Pikachu, that’s Jason.’ ‘Hey Mel!’ ‘Jase!’
Jason the pikachu laughed…’Oh the force is strong with you and your friends I see.’ ‘You can tell that?’ ‘Oh yes, I certainly can. Looks like quite the party, which you know I like.’ ‘Of course I do.’ ‘Speaking of parties, do we have any snacks? I ate all my Poke-snacks earlier and i’m still very starving.’ ‘Well you’re not eating Doizee.’ ‘Relax i’m not going to eat your bug friend.’ ‘Jason used to eat bugs?’ Piff asked. ‘Well his running gag was trying to eat ladybugs or pretending he was.’
Pikachu looked at Jason…’You sound like quite the prankster. It’s no wonder Mel made you part of your Pokemon team.’ ‘Absolutely. She was the one that turned me into a Pikachu and gave the ability to have this form.’ ‘Yep, I intended it to be an April Fools joke but it backfired because he ended up enjoying it.’
They all laughed as they played video games and Mel showed the gang the game room which had Nintendo 64, Playstation 2, Xbox and various previous humanoid computer companions including Lenora. Which was followed by Mel introducing the gang to her very first gang of plush friends, the mushabelly gangs. Piff was amazed by the history that was being shown to him and he couldn’t wait to tell Suku about it later.
Finally they all gathered together in the special room that was a shrine to James as Mel told her all about James and the joy he brought to the family and how he made her laugh, showing off aspects of their bond such as the ‘sock fights’. Piff looked at a yellow and blue fish wearing a t shirt that had ‘That Dribbly Fish’ written on the front. ‘Hi i’m Dribbler.’ ‘Why do they call you Dribbly?’ ‘Because James always said i’m a dribbly fish.’ Dribbler explained.
“That makes a lot of sense.”
“Yeah, Mel loved me a lot.”
“Would you say you were the first fish she ever got?”
Were you her very first fish ever?’ ‘Oh you bet.’ Dribbler answered. ‘It’s an honor to meet you Dribbler, i’m Piff.’ Piff responded, shaking Dribbler’s hand - Piff and Dribbler became very good friends over the course of a couple of minutes. Which was followed by the gang all floating back through the portal and arriving back in Nile Road.
When the gang all gathered into the lounge Piff made some delicious food for dinner and after dinner they all played games as Mel emailed Jill about their adventure. Piff and Tangie went fishing and caught a lot of fish as they all played some games together.
This was followed by a relaxation session where Piff and Tangie did their favorite relaxing activities like ASMR, bathbomb sniffing, imagination sessions and ‘Guess the Bathbomb Scent’, as Corey put on his bat pajamas and Oats put on his princess night-gown and they all brushed their teeth.
Piff activated the closedown sequence featuring the animated fish couple in a video game with levels based on the nostalgic journey the gang had been on - as the background shifted from day to night as the fish couple floated into a colorful bedroom full of squishmallows and the goodnight message appeared on screen and their clothes magically became night-clothes.
He floated into bed and kissed Tangie before giving the goodnight speech which was: ‘We had a magical nostalgia themed adventure today and wow, seeing so many places from my owner’s past was a fantastic treat for all of us. And I learned so much. And made some new pals too. I do love these adventures so much and I hope you enjoyed today’s one too, goodnight.’
Anglo turned off the light as they all drifted off to sleep and had sweet dreams including Piff, who dreamed of all the places he had visited with the gang during the day - and thus their adventure had come to an end, but more are coming up.
