“you’re the kind of girl who drinks hot chocolate and smells of roses and never stops blushing. you stare at your feet when you walk and give names to spiders and make daisy chains when you’re bored. you work at a bakery. your favourite book is the secret garden.

what on earth makes you think that you and I could ever be friends?”

lani quirked a smile. she jumped down from the brick wall and took four steps closer to kali.

“you’re the kind of girl who lives off coffee and smells of leather and never stops swearing. you deal drugs and punch assholes and i’m genuinely not sure that people are kidding when they say you killed someone, but that’s alright, ‘cause you also love pumpkin spice and horror movies and i’m pretty certain you have a soft side in there somewhere, demon or not.”

lani poked kali’s arm and smiled when she squirmed.

“i see no reason why we couldn’t be friends.”

kali narrowed her eyes.

“so we’re in agreement then? you’re an idiot, and we’re not friends.”

lani’s smile stretched into a grin. she slung her arm over kali’s shoulders and shrugged.

“nah. we’re friends. you just don’t realise it yet.”
