- Itâs dark at night and someone all dressed in black with a hoodie is going on a skateboard through Rosewood.
- Hannah is sleeping in her room, when she wakes up and gets scared by Mona, whoâs in her room. She acts all sweet and tells Hannah that her doctors released her and she needs Hannahâs help. She says no one is in her corner and she knows Hannah is special. Hannah is on the defensive and tells her she spent the last two years majoring in torture. Mona asks her if she doesnât believe that a person can get better. She says she had a breakdown, but now sheâs good and with her new meds sheâs keeping everything under control. At some point Hannahâs grandmother calls her from outside her room asking if sheâs alone. Hannah replies that sheâs just reading out loud, and then Mona whispers a thank you.
- Opening credits.
- The following morning, Emily is getting ready in her room, when she receives a text from Hannah, who tells her that Monaâs officially back. Emily then sees someone reaching her room from outside with a staircase, and her father arrives, explaining her theyâre putting the new alarm on. He is putting an alarm on every window which can be controlled by an app on his phone. He adds it will be on 24 h a day. Then he tells Emily that Garrettâs mum called. Since she canât have her son back, sheâs going after the Rosewood police and Mr Fields will support her, because the police let an innocent man out without protection. Emily says she doesnât consider Garrett innocent, and her dad points out that someone must agree with her and thought they should take the matter in their own hands. Emily says Alisonâs murder has never been solved. After a bit more chatting, her father tells Emily she wonât be going out for the marathon the following day.
- Aria and Spencer are at The Brew and talk about Mona. Spencer wonders if Mona could tell them something about Garrettâs death, or if she knows if itâs connected to the NAT club. Aria reminds her friend that the NAT club was going on while she was still Loser Mona, but Spencer thinks Mona could have been spying on them. Then she asks Aria if she ever asked her dad about what Garrett said. Aria gets upset and says sheâs finally getting along with her dad, so sheâs not going to ruin it for something Garrett said. He said a lot of lies, so why should they suddenly believe anything he said.
- Hannahâs grandma picks up the note from a package they just received, as Hannah arrives in the kitchen. The package is from Mona, who baked Hannah some muffins. Hannah doesnât feel good about Mona coming back and she chats with her grandma, who tells her about a relative of them who was crazy. Hannah asks her grandma if she thinks people can change, and she encourages her to go to school and trust events.
- Emily arrives at school with Aria and Spencer and tells her about her dadâs alarm system. She says her parents are trying to get information out of her about what happened lately, but she isnât telling much. Hannah arrives too, and she tells her friends she told Mona sheâd be around. Emily thinks maybe they should all be Monaâs friend and ask her if she knows why Garrett was killed just after he told that story about Ariaâs dad. Spencer tries to stop her, but aria gets upset again and asks if now theyâre going to wonder if her dad was on the Halloween train too. She asks if they actually believe her own dad would drug her and lock her in a box. As she turns around to get inside school, she notices Mona, standing there and smiling like sheâs the most innocent person ever. Mona tells her hi, Aria looks at her angrily and gets in, and Mona gives her a strange look.
- Emily follows Aria inside school and apologizes. Aria admits she overreacted too. She says itâs just so scary to have such a secret between her and her dad, especially since sheâs already keeping a secret from Ezra. They arrive in their class and notice Meredith is inside. Sheâs apparently the replacement for their history teacher.
- Later, everyoneâs in class and Meredith is teaching history. Aria is texting and Meredith notices it. She tells everybody that cellphones are not allowed with her. She asks Aria to give her hers, not to be tempted. She explains a little bit more, then the bell rings. Mona was very observant during the whole scene. When everybody leaves, Meredith asks Aria to stay for a minute, and Spencer, Hannah and Emily stay with her. Meredith tells them that she has a job to do, and if they want to graduate, so do them. She gives Aria her phone back, then wishes the girls to have a nice day.
- Out of the class, Hannah reaches Mona and tells her she couldnât leave Aria. They arrive at Monaâs locker and, as she opens it, they are scared to death by a cow brain stuck on the door with a big knife. Everybody else, including Aria, Spencer and Emily, watches, in shock. Mona takes out the knife with the brain attached to it and holds it. She goes towards the bin, with the people around taking pictures and filming. Lucas and Jason are in the crowd as well. Mona throws the brain in the bin, then turns around and holds the knife high. She looks around and everybodyâs scared, then she drops the knife in the bin, goes to murmur something in Lucasâs ear, goes back to her locker, picks up her books and leaves. Hannah goes straight to Lucas to ask him what did she say to him and who did that, but he seems to upset, doesnât say anything and just leaves. Hannah notices heâs limping.
- Emily, Aria and Spencer go in the bathroom to discuss what just happened. Apparently someone stole the brain from the laboratory. Emily is worried people are going to think it was them, but Spencer says they were with Meredith, so it must be obvious to everybody it wasnât them. Emily doesnât trust Meredith as an alibi. They keep discussing Mona, but she suddenly arrive. As she looks at herself in the mirror, Emily asks her if she knows they didnât have anything to do with it. Mona says she knows, and why would she do it, after Mona helped her. Emily asks what does she mean and Mona replies she helped her figure out who the creep was who killed her girlfriend. Then Mona adds that she knows she has to re-earn the girlsâ trust. She says sheâs better now and leaves.
- Hannah reaches Caleb in the courtyard and asks him if he heard about Mona. He asks if she thinks itâs possible that Mona would do that to herself. Hannah thinks itâs possible, but thereâs definitely something going on between Mona and Lucas. She asks why is he limping. She tells Caleb that when Aria was in that box she hurt someone with a dirty old screwdriver, so, even if it was weeks earlier, it could have been Lucas. She asks Caleb to talk to Lucas and leaves.
- Emily is in the hallways and sheâs talking on the phone with her dad, explaining that she didnât answer the phone because she was in class. She promises sheâll come home after work, but then she notices Mona talking to creepy Harold, the guy from the Lost Woods Resort, whoâs apparently working there as a janitor.
- Spencer is sitting on a table in the courtyard, having lunch with Toby. They agree on running together after school. He explains he didnât reply to her message the night before because he fell asleep early and didnât read it. Spencer asks him if he thinks Jenna transferred school after Garrett was killed because she was scared she was going to be next. Toby is upset and asks her why she keeps obsessing about it. Spencer replies she just canât stop, since the police still has no idea who killed Garrett and how. Then she sees Mona and Jason hugging and acting like heâs consoling her, and she feels disgusted. Toby tries to scold her again, but she protests.
- Hannah and Emily get in the basement at school and look for creepy Harold. Emily tells her friend that Harold didnât even recognize her. They see him sitting on a table in a room, listening to music and writing in a diary. On the table thereâs the baby monster Halloween mask. Harold seems to have heard a noise and goes at the door to look. He has a weird face. The girls hide and he closes his door.
- Aria is with Ezra in his apartment and they talk about the charity marathon that Aria is supposed to be running at. Ezra notices sheâs nervous and asks her whatâs wrong. She says itâs just about the marathon. He encourages her to do it. As they kiss, her phone rings. She reads and itâs a text from Hannah, telling her that creepy Harold is at their school with a bag of Monaâs stuff. She asks her to meet at The Brew. Aria tells Ezra itâs her mum, and she has to go see her. They kiss goodbye and Aria looks sad. Just as she gets out of the door, she sees a package full of blue balloons and stud, saying âItâs a boy!â. Thereâs a note that says: âLike babies, lies grow bigger. Then they start talking. When will YOU?â.
- Spencer and Toby arrive back in front of her house after their run. He offers to prepare the hot tub, but Spencer sees Jason arriving and goes to talk to him. She asks him whatâs going on with him and Mona. He doesnât answer and she tells him to be careful. Toby starts approaching and Jason looks at him. Then he asks what is he missing. Spencer says Mona is dangerous. Jason keeps looking at them and interrupts Spencer, who replies that Toby can hear, since he knows what Mona did. She says Mona canât be trusted, but Jason answers that people used to say the same thing about him, so he likes to give people the benefit of the doubt. He thanks Spencer for the tip and gets home. Toby looks at him focused and mad.
- Hannah and Aria are at The Brew with Emily and Aria just told her friends about the casket A sent. Emily agrees with Aria that Mona is up to something. Hannah doesnât deny it, but thinks that maybe creepy Harold is there just because he missed Mona. Aria says they need to go to his room and see what he has. Caleb arrives, kisses Hannah and tells the girls what he found out. He says Lucas didnât want to chat, but found the transcript from Monaâs talk with her parents and the principal about coming back to Rosewood High. Apparently her parents didnât want her to, but she begged. This is the opposite of what she told Hannah. Caleb thinks Mona is back to take care of unfinished business, then, since Emily has to get back to work, he follows her to get some food. Aria doesnât want to let Mona ruin their lives. Hannah tells her to tell Ezra the truth about his son before A does, but Aria points out that the kidâs mum asked her not to. Hannah says that every day that goes by is one more day that that child doesnât have a father. She looks at Caleb and says she knows how this could have an impact on him.
- Spencer and Toby get in the Hastingsâ hot tub in the Hastingsâ backyard. Spencer is nervous, and Toby asks her what is she thinking about. She tries to deny, but then asks why doesnât Jason get that Mona is dangerous. Toby seems distressed and says Jason is a big boy and can take care of himself. Spencer replies that he has no one to get his back, while she has Toby and her friends. Then she hears a noise in the bushes and asks if someoneâs out there. Toby looks at her very upset and creepy. Spencer is too nervous and goes back inside.
- Aria is on her bed, and Byron knocks on the door and gets inside. He sits in front of her bed and asks his daughter how did it go to school. She asks him if he spoke to Meredith. He says he did and compliments her for behaving like an adult. A little surprised, Aria asks him what did Meredith tell him. Byron replies that she and her friends were cautiously welcoming, and thatâs often the most a teacher can expect. Then he stands up and goes towards the door. Aria asks him if he liked Alison. Byron is stunned, and she makes her question more precise, asking what did he think of her as a friend. He replies he likes all of her friends. Aria points out that her mum for example thought that Ali was entitled. Byron says he thinks that most of that comes from being at an awkward age. Aria asks him if he never spent time alone with her. He asks why would he have. Then he tries asks his daughter if she still really misses her. Aria doesnât reply, and Byron leaves the room. After a while he comes back and just observes her for a little.
- The following day, Hannah is in her kitchen, dresses in sport clothes, watching a video of Mona with her grandmother. Mona addresses the audience remembering how she was picked on in the past. Hannah says she sent it to everybody. Hannahâs grandmother says Mona is twisted and sheâs trying too hard. Hannah pushes play on the video again, but then someone knocks on the back door and itâs Lucas. Heâs very hesitant, but she invites him in. He gives her an envelope of money for Caleb, saying itâs the last he owes him. Hannah offers him something to drink, but he says heâs good and refuses everything. She asks him what happened to his leg and he says he had an accident skateboarding and itâs hard to explain. Then she ask him what happened between him and Mona. He says nothing, and he hasnât spoken to her in months. Hannah insists, asking if Mona has something on him, if he did something he regrets, or if someone stabbed him in the leg in the Halloween train. Lucas wants to leave, but Hannah says she needs answers and asks why is Mona back. Lucas stops and replies that this wasnât Monaâs first time back: she was taking out long before. Hannah asks where was she going and what was she doing, but Lucas says heâs sorry, but thatâs the best he can do. She says she understands, and he leaves. Hannah starts watching the video again.
- People at school are watching Monaâs video as well. Caleb and Aria are at a stand, commenting on it. Then Caleb shows her Mona, arriving, and they comment itâs unbelievable. Hannah arrives chilling out with her grandma, and says hi to Spencer, who goes to say hi to Hannahâs grandma.
- Aria and Caleb are getting water from the car and, after commenting about Mona again, she asks him if he ever wondered about what his life could have been if his father was around when he was like 6 or 7. Caleb, who didnât expect this question, is surprised and hesitant, so Aria apologizes. He then says that when he was young he looked for him everywhere, but when he was about 13 he just stopped, probably because he was tired of wasting all that energy. He says heâs happy with the way things turned out, but heâd be lying if he said there werenât days where he wished he could replace the guy he made up in his mind with a person.
- The coach starts explaining the rules of the run, and Hannahâs marathon interrupts her, volunteering to sing the national anthem. She just grabs the microphone and does it. Mona observes around. Spencer shows Aria and Hannah what they could do to get back to school unseen and explore creepy Haroldâs room. Hannah tells the others she thinks Mona was on the Halloween train that night. The coach interrupts Hannahâs grandmaâs song and gives the starting shoot.
- Emilyâs dad goes to say bye to her before leaving the house. He intends to leave Emily there with the alarm. While he quickly leaves the room, Emily switches their phones, so she can control the alarm system. After Wayne Fields leaves, Emily unblocks the house and leaves from the window.
- Emily is trying to open Haroldâs door at school, when the others arrive. Spencer manages to get the door open and they get in. Inside they donât see all of Monaâs stuff as Emily and Hannah previously saw it, but notice that thereâs a diary. They recognize it as the book Harold was writing on. It looks like he was writing a long letter to Mona because he thought that was her diary, but from the first pages itâs clear it was Aliâs.
- Mona is outside, working at a stand for the marathon. Meredith arrives from the school, puts stuff at another stand and Mona observes her intensely.
- At Hannahâs request, Spencer recognizes the diary as the one she saw in Aâs lair. They read a bit and then ask Aria if what Ali was writing is about her dad. Flashback: Ali is in Byron Montgomeryâs office, looking outside. She just asked him for more money. He says he wonât give it to her, because Meredith is out of her life and itâs in the past. Alison points out that it did happen, though. She asks him what would happen if a student called the dean and told him that Meredith was flipping out because one of her professor had an affair with her and left her. She then threatens to call Ella, and in fact she digits the number. Byron stops her, by taking her wrist with his strength. Alison says maybe sheâll do it when sheâs alone. Byron starts freaking out and says he canât give her that kind of money without Ella noticing. Alison replies he can take some time figuring it out, since sheâs going to visit her nana. She says sheâll be back Labor Day weekend, asking if that works for him. In Byronâs eyes thereâs terror. Alison leaves. Back to present day, Aria is under shock. They hear a noise and decide to leave the diary there, but Aria takes a page out of it. Out of the room, Harold stops them and asks what were they doing there. Spencer says they had to go to the bathroom, and they get past him. Harold, though, takes the diary page from Ariaâs hand. She asks him to give it back to her, but he refuses. Toby suddenly arrives and asks them if everythingâs fine. Aria takes the diary page back and they leave. As they get out of school, they thank Toby, who says he went to the end of the run earlier and saw them get in from the back door. Suddenly, a fire starts and they hear screams.
- Emily is in her room with her dad, whoâs talking on the phone with the principal, explaining that he switched phones with his daughter. After the call, he mentions Meredith has been a little hurt by the fire. Then he asks his daughter why isnât she letting him in. Emily doesnât talk, but he says that he knows what itâs like to lose people, but the only thing that keeps him going is going back to his family. He says he wants to be her father, but then, since she doesnât answer, he leaves.
- Hannah is in her kitchen in the dark, rewatching Monaâs video. Her grandma arrives, saying she probably has seen enough of Mona for today. They leave the room together.
- Aria is sitting on her bed, looking at Alisonâs diary page. Byron arrives and she ask howâs Meredith. He replies he just took her back from the ER and offered her to stay with them, but she refused, based on what happened earlier tonight. Aria asks him what does he mean, and he shows her a piece of paper. Itâs a note that was wrote to Meredith, asking her to grab two swag bags for the staff. This way she was sent where the fire started. Byron asks Aria if one of her friends wrote it. Aria, in pure shock, asks if Meredith thinks one of her friends did it, and he says she sure does, after telling him what really happened on her first day at school. He insists multiple times on asking her if she or her friends did that. Aria obviously denies, and he says that this kind of secret come back to haunt us. Aria asks him about his secrets. He asks what does that mean. She says nothing and asks him to close her door. He leaves, and Aria rewatches the note.
- Jason is sipping a drink on his porch. Spencer arrives and says hi. He tells her he heard he missed fireworks at the end of the race, and Spencer points out that Mona walked out without a scratch. Jason interrupts her, saying he hears her this time (about her advises about Mona). Spencer is relieved and turns around to go home. She receives a call from Aria, who tells her that A set them up, sending Meredith to the shed that then got on fire. Spencer asks if it was Mona, then offers Aria if she wants to come over to her place, but Aria replies her father is never letting that happen. In the meantime, Byron is eavesdropping.
- Jason is still sitting on his porch. Mona comes out of his house, and, as if it was the most normal thing, brings him a bandage, saying this should help him. She sits next to Jason and takes care of a wound he has on his hip. They are very friendly and seem very close.
- Final scene: Out of school, A gets to a parked bike from the students parking place and does something to it. Then A goes to hide behind wall, as students come out of school. One of them takes the bike that A was doing something on, and, after a moment we hear a scream and a noise, which means that that person had an accident.  PROBABLY TOBY
