"fiction doesnt affect reality!" fiction is often used in ways that lets people push things like politics, beliefs, or mindsets onto people. for example, the movie "Jaws" sparked widespread fear of sharks across the world(?) and still continues to do so. And if fiction doesn't affect reality whos buying all that anime merch with their real fucking money that affects their bank account.
I'm so tired of fiction being used in a negative way. like making kids think its ok for adults to hit on or even date them in some cases. like the amount of fnaf fans i saw when i was still a young fan that were fawning over a CHILD MURDERER is ridiculous. and unfortunately i fell into that crowd because as kids, we follow whats popular unfortunately. and sometimes whats popular is widespread adoration for a character whos over 30 when youre like 12.
ANOTHER good example of fiction affecting reality is dan and phil fans "shipping" dan and phil together. In dan howell's coming out video, he made note of how people "headcanoned" him as gay and it then led to some more internalized homophobia of sorts in himself. even though it was fanfiction, it still largely impacted both Dan and Phil's mental states.
so please for the love of god think about what youre doing and why
