Classic photo of Turret Arch through the Windows arch at Arches NP. This was my first trip to the arches with my camera, This shot was a little scary, I was laying belly-down on this rock here with a 20 foot drop just in front of me and on either side. I didn’t use a tripod, I just set my camera down right onto the rock and propped it up straight using the lens cap! I had to be patient to get a shot without anyone in it, but somehow I managed to get exactly what I needed. love the sun bouncing off the inside of the arch. The arches are a magical place and I look forward to my return.
There are Steps... and there are Steps Canyonlands National Park, Moab UT - July 2018 Often in the brochures and literature for a park, it will describe a trail as easy, moderate, or difficult and include within the description that there are inclines– steep or mild, and occasionally “steps.” The definition of “steps” varies widely, however, as evidenced from these two images of steps within Canyonlands National Park. I encountered both on my hikes in Canyonlands. MWM

Moonset over Moab by Mark Stevens Via Flickr: I'd noticed the moon setting earlier in the morning while loading up my rental. Then as I neared the bridge on the northern part of town, I saw this scene and knew I had to take it, with the moon seemingly hanging over the bluffs here.

Behold, Corona Arch! I was nearly unsuccessful with this shot as I put too much faith into my off-brand battery. I only got a few shots off when my camera died. I believe this was at sunrise, with the sun just barely hitting the top of the plateau in the far distance. The sun takes a lot of time to eventually hit the arch, so the sky is fully lit up by the time it gets there. I thought this weird pattern on the wall to the right was really cool, like tiger stripes, leading towards a massive arch. If you thought Delicate arch was big, this one makes it looks small. For reference, that boulder down to the left is as tall as me, maybe even a little taller. 0.o
