#mlp daybreak

Despite Cerulean’s mane being made of fire, the blue flames are cool and refreshing to the touch. She’s a calm and comforting soul. :}

"Whew! It's hot today, huh?" Daybreak craned her neck to the side, trying to flip her hair over. She flashed a bright smile at Valenshy. The pink mare didn't return it. And Daybreak was almost sick of it... almost.

"Valenshy?" She drew closer to Valenshy, "You good?"

"Oh sorry! Did you say something?" Valenshy lifted her head and stared at a stray hair on Daybreak's head.

"It's hot today, huh?" Daybreak reiterated, enunciating the words in annoyance accidentally.

"Oh yeah."

Oh yeah? That's it? Daybreak thought. She sighed. One hoof in front of the other, just try to keep the conversation going. Just think of something, it'll be fine. Then you can go home and soak your hooves, give yourself the spa day Valenshy was unwilling to give you.

Daybreak suddenly stopped in front of a coffee shop. It was one of those large scale chain ones, the overly expensive for a tiny portion kind.

Ooh! She thought, let's get coffee, that'll be nice! I could really go for a chai right now. Wait, would Valenshy want to go to another coffee shop, would that be blasphemy?... Cheating?... Oh well.

Daybreak turned to Valenshy, but she had just kept walking, head angled down, not noticing Daybreak had stopped at all.

"Hey, Valenshy!" Daybreak called out, "Should we get some coffee?" Her voice was almost condescending by how forcefully cheery she made it sound.

Valenshy paused and, not even looking back, muttered, "Oh... um... Well, I don't know... I don't know if i really wanna, you know, I don't know if i wanna-"

"Fuck's sake!" Daybreak huffed and snorted, her ears flicking bad agitated as she turned away from Valenshy. That got her attention. Valenshy whipped her head around, her eyes once dead and dull, now round and full of concern, but whether that concern came from empathy or embarrassment, Daybreak couldn't tell.

"I'm sorry Daybreak, that wasn't fair of me," She could tell Valenshy wasn't fully aware of why Daybreak was upset, but at least she knew it was her fault, "Let's go in, grab a bite to eat? I'll pay."

"No, Valenshy, it's..." Daybreak groaned, "I don't wanna eat anymore, i don't want coffee, I just wanna go home alright? Is that so much to ask?"

She glanced back at Valenshy, meeting her gaze. Her eyes were glassy again, greyish and lifeless, dejected even more so.

That wasn't right, she thought to herself as her angry expression softened, its not Valenshy's fault... maybe?... no it's not.

Daybreak gave her a sad smile, "I'm sorry, girl. I just..." Her voice trailed off as she tried to find the words, she couldn't say 'well it's your fault, but like it's not!' cus that makes zero sense.

"The heat getting to you?" Valenshy suggested in a joking manner, returning Daybreak's smile, finally.

"Yeah sure," Daybreak sighed once more, "It's the heat, makes me a meanie, y'know?"

Valenshy gave a forced chuckle, but Daybreak appreciated the sentiment.
