also, speaking of the mixed doubles, doesn't this kind of marketing based on "romance" (which, between the raducaraz narrative being the face of it all, and this weird ass dating show the us open is releasing, it's really hard for me to believe it's not intentional) also seem kind of disrespecful to actual mixed doubles players??
genuinely, how many mixed doubles teams are lovers? tsitsipas and badosa played a couple of times, i guess? but most teams are just professional athletes competing, and all that promotion is doing is encouraging people to be weird about a discipline that's already frowned upon and not considered a serious competition. congrats.
i know there are more significant ways doubles players were screwed over by this, but idk, it's just something i've been thinking about for a while. if you're trying to claim that you created this format to "popularise doubles", and this is how you're trying to introduce it to new viewers, maybe it is not the best way, actually.
