My favorite thing about the Mothra tamagotchi (besides that it has my beautiful guardian moth in it of course) is that it can mismolt. It can fail to get out of it’s cocoon and become stuck that way a thing many invertebrate keepers can relate to. As many beloved pets get stuck in their molts and die or get horribly messed up in the process.
This is Mothra in her pupa on the Tokyo tower
Look familiar? This monster called Makora isn’t in any of the movies, or comics, or anything. It’s just...there. Seems a little out of place when all the other evolutions are big moths regardless of good or bad care. Why have this peanut? But looking closer..it looks an awfully lot like the Cocoon Mothra JUST went into, only add tiny legs and a face. She got stuck in her cocoon and became this poor pitiful creature.
For a normal invert. this would mean death. Or at least a stressful few weeks where eating or moving is extremely difficult. But Mothra is a God, also a tamagotchi so it can’t be TOO dark. So she fuses with her cocoon in her evolution, unable to free herself.
Now there is a bright side to this. If you take perfect care of Makora and get it’s weight to the lowest it can go (30 tons) while maxing out it’s Justice Meter then people say that it’ll become the secret character Godzilla. (Source: Post 45 in this Tamalog)
But how neat is it that she can mismolt?? I wonder if the creators ever kept a mantis or a tarantula and saw that this can happen? Or if they were just like “Haha what if she got stuck in there..!” and went with it?
