Hi! 29. Brainwashing for Mac 🙊 For the 100 drabble prompts?
No. 29 Brainwashing
Thank you so much for ur ask AND ur patience omg @mischiellis. Of course!!!! I had to do WS!mac for this omg. Everyone should definitely check out @anguishmacgyver winter mac tag as she was on the one to first get me thinking of this as well 🥰
ONE.
It's cold when you awaken, words lingering in the back of your hind brain, lizard terror licking at your spine.
You are cold, tired, tundra that isn't ice lingering, it seeps into your bones, your joints. Your legs are numb, they haven't returned to you yet.
Someone stands in front of you, and your head lifts, heavy, lopsided. The man speaks, but you do not hear him. He's standing on your left side, where all you can hear is the whine of a drill, the ring of encompassing silence.
The man is familiar, someone you think you might have known all those years ago, but you know only the barest of details. Non mission critical details have been all but worn from your mind.
But even still, those brown eyes that are not as soft as you remember linger in your peripherals.
TWO.
They leave you there, for only a few minutes. You count the seconds by how your body aches, how long it takes for your legs to come online, to return to you. How your hearing returns, buzzing like an insect.
You feel only coldness, only ice and metal beneath your fingers, your body. The machine whirls, gearing up.
With a noise you cannot describe, the man, kind eyes now cold and distant, he no longer looks like the man you once knew, steps further into view.
He speaks with an American accent.
Once upon a time, you think you did too.
THREE.
"Paperclip."
You freeze. You know what is coming. You almost wish you didn't. Something crawls up your twisted spine, digs into the graves of your ribs. You think you are afraid.
"Brother."
That feeling grows, your throat, so silent until now, gives way, you cannot breathe. You reach a shaking hand out, but the man does not stop. Why doesn't he stop, you always said you would never hurt me, Ja- (the name spirals out of reach.)
"Oversight."
Your hand drops to your side, you did not want it to. You lose slow motion of your own body, a ghost with which you cannot control. You are not in control.
You haven't been for so very long now.
"Codex."
Everything slips, as if something is slipping from him, sideways, second by second, minutes to hours to days.
The feeling stills your chest, barely rising. The whirring of your legs stop, the World seems to stand still.
Those unkind eyes stare into you. You think you had a home, before. But assets are weapons, are tools. You do not deserve them. You have not been a good weapon.
"Disarm."
The fear is gone now, slipping away, as fogged as the memory. You feel metal around your wrist, think briefly, vaguely, dizzily, of a leather cuff around an unknown wrist, of small metal tags against a pale, gunshot chest.
"Alone."
Those memories slip away, and you are left adrift. Oceanic wide, your mind is blank. Your hearing has returned, your legs are heavy, you do not blink. That man stares down at you. You do not recognise him.
"Are you ready?" You are asked.
"Ready to comply." You say. Your mouth is not your own. Your body is not your own.
You are not your own.
FOUR.
You shoot a man with kind, brown eyes. He has a leather cuff on one wrist. You think he calls you something, a title, a name maybe. Mac, you think.
But you are a weapon, and weapons have no need for names.
