Dis-Information:

In this TikTok post, we can easily detect disinformation for different reasons. First, when looking at the name of the account that published the video, we can see that this doesn’t seem to come from a reliable source. Looking at their account, you can see they are well known for publishing disinformation content. To continue, when we look at the comments, most validate that this is false and that AI even made up the event. With modern tools, people who want to create imaginative content have the possibility to do so, and this is a good example. Finally, when you look to verify the news, all the sources that come up are also confirming that this post is indeed not true. 

Mis-Information:

This post is representing misinformation for many reasons. When looking at the video for the first time, the lady speaking seems to be really convincing regarding her story. She will talk as if it is something that she has truly lived and that affected her and her daughter. She is very convincing in her talking and really can fool you if you don’t ask yourself more questions. Users can see this is misinformation when they visit her profile and see the follow-up video here. In this follow-up video, Jenny confirms that her first post was misleading and that she was referencing her cat when she was talking about her daughter. This video represents information that isn’t true and that can easily mislead people. 

Mal-Information:

I hate when people spread things they hear without ever questioning where the information came from. People so want to believe what they hear if it corresponds with their beliefs that they just accept things at face value.

I got so angry today when some of my adult friends who should know better were spreading false claims about illegal aliens. They were all liking somone’s meme about how illegal aliens should not be allowed to get food stamps or welfare because they didn’t pay any taxes.

As much as I hated to go up against my retired friends, I had to point out that the federal regulations state that illegal aliens are NOT eligible for Food Stamps. This so distressed me that I went and copied the Federal regulations and the web site address and posted it on Facebook for all my followers to read. I also pointed out that llegal Aliens do pay taxs. They pay sales tax, personal property tax if they own a car, and real estate taxes if they own a house. They have taxes taken out of their checks every pay period. Most of that money, including Social Security,  they will never see. That money goes into the Social Security pot of money to be paid out to those that draw Social Security. Some of them will take a risk and file to get their income tax back, but that comes with a big risk of being deported if the IRS flags the use of two income tax filings with the same SS number. Most don’t bother.
