TTPS Issues Advisory to the Public Ahead of Proposed ‘Walk for Peace’
The Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS) is aware of a flyer currently circulating on social media promoting a proposed “Walk for Peace” in Port of Spain, at 3 pm, today, Wednesday 3rd June, 2026.
The TTPS fully supports legitimate initiatives aimed at fostering peace, reducing violence, and encouraging positive community engagement. These are objectives that align with our own commitment to building safer communities throughout Trinidad and Tobago.
However, it is important to remind members of the public that the country remains under a State of Emergency, and as such, all public gatherings, marches, processions, and assemblies are subject to strict legal requirements, security assessments, and operational considerations.
At this time, no authorization has been granted for any public march or procession associated with this event. Consequently, any attempt to organize or participate in an unauthorized march along public roadways may constitute a breach of the applicable laws and regulations currently in force.
The TTPS remains particularly concerned about several factors, including:
-The proposed assembly point at Piccadilly Street, an area that presents significant public safety and traffic management challenges;
-The potential for large, uncoordinated gatherings, which may create risks for participants, motorists, businesses, and the wider public;
-The current State of Emergency environment, which requires law enforcement to maintain heightened vigilance and exercise appropriate control measures in the interest of public safety and national security.
Accordingly, members of the public are advised to:
-Refrain from participating in any unauthorized march or road procession;
-Comply promptly with all lawful instructions issued by police officers;
-Utilize lawful and approved avenues to promote advocacy, community engagement, and peace-building initiatives.
The TTPS remains committed to working collaboratively with community groups, civil society organizations and other stakeholders. Any organization wishing to host a public event is encouraged to engage the relevant authorities and obtain the necessary approvals prior to the event being conducted.
The TTPS will continue to monitor the situation closely and will take all lawful, proportionate and necessary action to maintain public order, protect life and property, and safeguard national security.
Public safety remains our highest priority.
