I googled a bit because I was interested, and you definitely can do that. And you can get a gadget that will help you tune, it sits at the top of the string and lights up arrows to show how the string needs to be tuned.

!!!!!!!!! Oh my gosh Really! I checked out a little bit and found out about the headphones but holy crud there’s a device for tuning?!! Oh my gosh that would make my life so much easier for my hard of hearing ass!!!
