Gundamâs doorbell wailed until he put down his book about kitsune, left his couch and opened his cottage door. There he found Ibuki, whose grin widened when she saw him.
She tapped his nose. âBoop!â
He flinched. âWhat in the...?â
âSurprise! Ibuki thought sheâd spread some festive cheer with a song!â
Before he could consent, she began howling an original song titled âMy Mother Boarded Up the Fireplace And Santaâs Skeleton Has Been There for Yearsâ. A dark aura spewed from her contorting lips, clashing with his own aura.
Never before had he witnessed such a formidable display.
When the song finally ended, she said, âThank you,â despite him not saying anything. Then she sneezed, shivering. It was night-time, and she wasnât even wearing a coat.
After hearing her demonic incantation, he decided to investigate further.
â... Have you more battles to wage?â he asked guardedly.
âNope! Ibuki came just for you, Mister Scrooge!â
âYou must be cold. Take shelter here temporarily, Thunderous One, to restore your - â
âWow, thanks!â And then she hugged him. He gasped, but she didnât cringe or melt upon touching him. In fact, she seemed happy.Â
His face warmed. Yes, he definitely needed to study this enigma.

Ibuki wishes she brought a wooden cup-and-ball to this stake-out. She pouts, sitting cross-legged on the walkway between the boysâ cottages.
Finally, a door opens, and she jumps up. âGundam-chan!â
He shrinks back as she runs over. âWhat business does the songful one have? Confess!â
âYouâve been inside all day, so Ibuki thought sheâd check if youâre a vampire!â Ibuki reaches down her top for some garlic and then thrusts out her hand. âAh! This isnât garlic... Ibuki accidentally brought mistletoe. Whoopsie!â
She pecks his earring. Gundam flushes as cutely as she predicted.
