Ok so in my original response to your answer I spewed a bunch of garble about the Sunny fandom and Sunny in general and then left (I still find some of the stuff I said interesting, here's the original response) but here's my attempt at trying to not go on a rant about Sunny [BLOOD PRESSURE MONITOR BEEPING]: For me discussions of a character's morality can be interesting but if we're speaking more directly about Lifesteal I find it redundant to talk about unless it's to speak about the character's sense of morality and what they define as good/evil. In the case of Sunny, I think it pisses me off so much is because the direct gimmick of the show is that it subverted the trope of likable sitcom characters (and it's Seinfeld on crack, or whatever). I also mentioned this in my original response but the way fandoms usually want a character to be the Perfect Victim damage their analysis of a character's morality which is why I had said '..everyone is so decisive about whether or not a person is Good or Bad'.
I also think that using 'this character is morally bad' as a reason to hate a character is something I dislike especially since a lot of the characters I've liked or like have been unethical or morally bad. I'm not good at deconstructing a person's intentions or motivations behind their analyses so I don't really find morality discourse interesting for that reason, but I think I dislike it because it feels like a indictment of myself for liking that character or because I find it so absurd to try and see who is the worst out of a batch of Bad characters with the written intention of being Bad. Which I guess applies to both Lifesteal and Sunny which are the only fandoms I've seen talk about morality at the frequency they do. I guess it's a given because Lifesteal is the evil killing betrayal server and Sunny is the bad people doing bad things sitcom.
I like to engage in other's peoples thoughts even if I find them insufferable--in fact I think I like engaging in thoughts I hate more than I do ones I agree with out of some subconscious desire to feel Pain. Conclusion: Morality debate in fandom is a Necessary Evil. Unless it's a thoughtful analysis. Then it's just Necessary
ah thats understandable esp the part about trying to find a perfect victim in a show with a cast of chars doing morally bad things since that seems pretty antithetical to the whole point lol
i suppose it just doesnt affect me as much as it seems to affect you cause i just. dont care about other ppl on an individual level lol
Hi Citrus what are your opinions on morality 'discourse' in fandom (i.e. people debating over whether or not a character is morally good or bad). Because watching the IASIP fandom from afar has made me realize that discussing a character's morality sort of pisses me off especially since everyone is so decisive about whether or not a person is Good or Bad
personally ii think its interesting even if it does also annoy me sometimes as well, it just pretty much depends on how the person talks about it
i do personally like to analyze a characters morality as well so it would be hypocritical of me to say everyone who does it sucks, however, its one of those things where i only like it if either i or a select few ppl talk about it (like how i am with uu) esp since i analyze it the same way i do with dnd characters -- that is to say i think its influencial to the character but not the end all be all, final product is worth more than the sum of its parts and all that, and ppl who do it any other way (esp if they use it as the sole/main measure of whether to hate a character or not) annoy me greatly
that being said, the main way i like bad guy/good guy analysis is through meta analysis as in what the analyzer themselves are saying (which is probs why i hate the example given above above) which probably isnt that much of a surprise to you since youre aware of my inclinations lol
Responding to the liveblog of Douger Fact's video Tbh if you're not paying attention like me I did not hone in on a bunch of the comedic tones of the video and a lot of the jokes only made sense After the video was revealed to be satire. I understood the reviews section but before I finished the video I was like 'Can he show Junjo's Quest why is it always excluded from Splat's greatness of the other games'. I guess Junjo's Quest just really sucks I also think the Windows 98 thing confused me but video essayers really like to use it as an aesthetic way to relay information and it Is a really good satire of video essays Douger probably Would read them outside of this video because all of the other videos on his channel remind me of another philosophy and poetry YouTuber I know I guess there's a bunch of placement on Windows in Frankenstein but I don't think there's anything that would prompt Douger to think of this after reading Frankenstein since it's an odd satire video making fun of video essayers and commenting on a whole bunch of stuff. The whole thing being a Really Stupid satire comedy video makes me feel stupid for trying to dissect why it made my neurons activate but I feel like in the movement a lot of Douger's words can feel this kind of urgency like a collapse. It kinda reminds me of Cruelty Squad ending spiels, with the odd language and increasingly disparaged player and in my original ask I was gonna say that it also reminds me of Cruelty Squad. Like both the humor and whatever Douger's tangents are. I find it sometimes beautiful, which is funny because the other moments of the video are just Stupid As Hell., Shirt that says I like comedic or satirical videos that will be sandwiched inbetween the most beautiful thing you'll witness and go back to normal like nothing happened not unlike Mac's dance in Mac Finds His Pride

honestly fair, douger does a very good job of mimicking genuine video essays and esp if youre not really all that honed in on the indie gaming scene a lot of the stuff he says could probs just be passed off as something youve never heard of

lmao real, windows 98 has such a chokehold on ppl with a more analogue type aesthetic which a lot of video essayers do which i find quite amusing esp as someone who doesnt have that kind of nostalgia

i havent seen cruelty squad so i dont have much to say on the paralllels to that but personally i think the best satires including comedic ones like this video leave you with something to think about. agreed on douger's words having a sense of agency, its actually a tone that a lot of video essayists like to use which i think is what makes a lot of them so enagaging -- its the sort of rhythm that makes you wanna hear whats next, makes you wanna find out more cause of how invested and interested in the topic the creator themselves seem to be, like theyre trying to tell you an answer to a question that you never really cared to ask yourself before this but now cant help but want to know more about
