"Librarian reads the small print": A pop-up sampling of miniature books from the Evron Collins Collection Diminutive size is the only feature uniting this throng of tiny tomes. Come and see the “Finger” New Testament; the “Kleinbuchs” distributed by the Winterhilfswerk; a sibling of the first book to travel to the moon; and many more! Posting some of my art on Tumblr again! This is a ~2” by 1.5” book I made over the summer. The books pages are from the New York Times’ 2020 Pride special section, and it’s bound in pleather from my old phone case.
Each page is decorated with watercolor, pastels, or marker. I worked on this the entire summer, and it feels like a time capsule to me - capturing my boredom, fear, and joy. There are some pages that I left untouched, snippets of a NYT article talking about the pandemic, the lgbt+ community, and the George Floyd protests. Here are some of my favorite pages:
And, of course:
2021 jul 24 // The evening before we took off on a five days long roadtrip, I started making a Sherlock Holmes themed minibook. Then off we went, driving south through Sweden, stopping at various attractions. We even nipped over to Copenhagen in Denmark, before we drove north along the east coast, doing quite a lot of sightseeing. We arrived back home last night, and of course I couldn’t wait to finish up the minibook 😄
Here’s a quick flip-through:
And photos of the whole thing:
This is actually an idea by Marly Design on Youtube, she made this minibook: https://youtu.be/Q5v0LrPKNQM
I got inspired and wanted to try it out. So much fun working in this small format (my book is 9x9 cm). I followed Marly’s steps to get a hang of all the little details she added everywhere. Now I can’t wait to make more of these little books, I think my next theme will be entomology (insects). Vintage sci-fi, or horror themes could be fun too!
