Im gonna try to keep this simple and short. This is between drama with avid and the minecraft community. I am not fully on anyones side
Avid said he was facing workplace harassment, he mentioned several things and how its hard to shut down flirting in character while streaming but keep up the atmosphere. Actually, there are ways to do that, i dont know why people think itd suddenly ruin everything? A lot of what he said made it more or less clear it was about scott, especially considering people noted they had stopped following each other on twitter and avid deleted the irl photos of them together. Though, its odd to me, because avid was the one to first initiate any flirting the majority of the time. Hes the one who most often started any flirting at first. Of course, workplace harassment is real and very serious, and avid very much should be listened to! Peoples boundaries can change! However he is a grown middle aged man with kids and he should be able to talk about his boundaries behind the scenes and if he wants to not be slimmed down to relationships, part of that is gonna have to be on to also stop flirting with people. Like in the flight, i watched his stream yesterday with my partner, he made his character nonbinary and he specified on twitter that part of his reason for that was so his character wouldnt really be shipped (which. Is fucking weird actually?? Whats being nonbinary gotta do with how much youre shipped?) but either way he did initiate flirting with another character first and part of me is waiting for that to come back as another possible issue in the future. How the minecraft community as a whole keeps calling most ships “yaoislop” feels so fucking weird and rooted in homophobia. “Yeah you ship those two guys together but its not really relevant so its just slop” ??? Ok??? What?? And with the whole thing over calling out misogyny in mcyt and uplifting women and genderqueer and trans creators, avid, who had Just come out as nonbinary publicly included himself in that conversation, even though he still uses he/him pronouns and can easily pass as a cis man, which is entirely fine!! Theres nothing wrong with that!! He very much can experience oppression and transphobia and (trans)misogyny as a nonbinary creator! However, he quite Literally had Just come out, so he still very well was a “cis man” up until that very very recent point, where he was still lumped in with the other cis men and also pushed forward ahead of any women/trans/genderqueer creators. Also his vagueposts on twitter feel rather immature, like yeah people do that, but also you are a now known content creator that we can all tell is vaguing about other very well known creators publicly when these are things that should be resolved in private matters. Ive no doubt he is a victim of workplace harassment, and ive no doubt hes starting to face the same issues as any creator who isnt a cis man and i very much against victim blaming, but in these instances, i feel avid does need to be better with handling things a bit more privately considering these circumstances
