Like the angst potential is astronomical. Imagine representing Venus, the goddess of love, while having your affections not be reciprocated? Having to watch as your beloved builds a family with someone else.

Oh man I was not actually aware how popular that was already in the fandom (I guess it’s a variant on a Lady/Knight thing, but less - or more? -- standard using Venus instead of Endy) though between two of my fave fanartists and some other folks. I only really thought about it in that one completely fluff AU where I mixed up when the girls join and Mina and her spend a lot of exclusive time together before joining the team. Havent really thought about the dynamics much so its not very deep

* Mina’s romantic entanglement stuff is a little less extreme, and while she’s still chill and wandering-eyed so is Usagi so it’s not a huge deal

* Pluto has mixed feelings about the whole business and is really uncomfortable with it at first, and Minako is not subtle about letting her know how much she didn’t ask her. So maybe their go-between runs a little hotter at times here.

* Mina has to spend a bit of time early on accounting for the credibility of Usagi in general, who isn’t quite THAT bad here but also hasn’t been around the other girls as long. (Whether or not you think Usagi would be the same solid glue, I do think she helps sand off some of the leftover rougher edges of the team, and the girls acknowledge this is her effect)

* Mina and Haruka’s initial interaction is still rough but for different reasons; Haruka ostensibly defends the other girls and doesn’t think Minako or Usagi should automatically have authority over them (not that they try, but her Push At Destiny is a little less filtered); Minako doesn’t seem plussed about, but it’s also not the playful catty arguing Haruka and Mako arguably have. You can feel Minako’s being uncharacteristically polite about it, even if Venus is chomping at the bit in the back of her head to deliver a spanking, but Minako has to hold back her entire knowledge of Uranus not being a thing at this point and a complete accident (which yes, does become a sore point later on when the Hotaru business hits) and be the bigger person about it
