Cover of issue eight of the Girl Genius comic book. Story by Phil & Kaja Foglio. Pencils by Phil Foglio with Colors by Mark McNabb. Lettering & Book Design by Kaja Foglio.
This issue of the Girl Genius comic book was printed in November 2002 and includes pages 38 to 72 of volume 3 of the graphic novel series. (These page numbers are from the second hardcover edition of volume 8. In the first edition, the pages were numbered 42 to 76.) The pages in the comic book are numbered 2 to 35.
You may notice that the graphic novel page count is one greater than in the comic book. This is because an extra page had to be added to keep a double-page spread (the big wasp fight) aligned properly.
See the rest below the cut.
Inside front cover: For those who do not choose to cut up their books and who don't feel like monkeying with photocopiers or scanners, extra covers are available from the publisher at a small price from our Web siteâairshipbooks.com, as are a selection of back issues and other works by Phil and Kaja.

Our Story Thus Far: Note that the caption of Agathaâs picture is still âAgatha Clayâ. I have no idea if the fact that she was a Heterodyne was still a big secret or an open secret among the fans at this point.
When a strange clank stalks the streets of Beetleburg near Transylvania Polygnostic University, Agatha Clay is mistaken for the assistant of its builder and taken aboard the airship city Castle Wulfenbach.
Clumsy, perpetually distracted and prone to headaches, Agatha has the drive to create but seems unable to build anything that actually works. Since boarding the Castle, her head has begun to clear, but she has now begun to wander in her sleep. To her embarrassment, she usually awakens at an empty workbench in her pajamas.
Castle Wulfenbach is ruled by Baron Klaus Wulfenbach, a particularly powerful Mad Scientist (or "Spark" to be polite) who has long enforced a kind of peace over the squabbling powers of Europe.
The Baron's son Gilgamesh has come to believe that Agatha herself is responsible for building of the Beetleburg Clank, and is hoping that just this once he has caught his brilliant father in a mistake. Gil has arranged for Agatha to be transferred to his lab as an assistant, and is keeping a close eye on her.
Meanwhile, Agatha has met Krosp, an experimental creature created to be the "Emperor of all Cats" and Othar Tryggvasson, a rather famous Hero being held captive by the Baron. Each of these meetings has reinforced Agatha's suspicion that she has not fallen amongst the "Good Guys" and that she herself may be in some danger. This is not a bad guess.
Mimmoth: One of Philâs most charming mimmoth drawings is included as additional material.

What if his route ends with Ray fading away and Saeran is just like "welp I'm not interested in women sorry" so the MC ends up alone (if the hint that Saeran is homosexual ends up being true)
This is a cool question!
Well, back when I first played the Ray route, I had an idea that Saeranâs âRayâ persona was like Saeyoungâs â707Ⲡpersona, and as you play the game more itâs a bit obvious thatâs a bit of the case. Both the twins have different personas that are akin to shields for them!
I think once we get to see the real Saeran, itâs obvious a lot of his âRayâ or âUnknownâ traits are going to go away for good, but there might be some underlined traits to begin with that will still reside.
I canât say for certain that any attraction he had for MC will just up and vanish. Iâm assuming since this is an otome game, and this is a male character, heâs going to still pertain some romantic attraction.
BUT that doesnât mean he canât like guys. I mean at the very least he could be bisexual, ya know. Being with a guy doesnât mean heâs instantly only gay, or being with a girl doesnât mean heâs purely straight either. He might be like Saeyoung and be bisexual! Iâd love that, personally. I enjoy having characters that are bi, like me!
But with that chat I think itâs good to key in that Seven was dreaming that. So while it might be a hint, it doesnât mean itâs 100% fact that heâs gay. (I donât think itâs bad to personally HC that, though!).
Maybe it means, due to there being a route for him coming out soon, you know, that while he was in Mint Eye and before, he never had any attraction to women. I mean lets face it, I feel like there isnât a lot of room for romance in a cult that constantly brainwashes people. I feel like the most âattractionâ he had for any woman was for Rika, and that wasnât necessarily romantic as it was messed up idolization, adoration, etc.
Thatâs what I think! Itâs okay if our views are different!
Since the page posted above appeared on Wednesday, January 14, 2026, causing quite a bit of excitement, the dingbots mounted on mimmoths haven't reappeared in the story. However, while going through the front matter of all the Girl Genius graphic novels in the First Journey to confirm something for the wiki, I happened upon what might be considered a preview.
This is the spot illustration on the title page of volume 10, Agatha Heterodyne and the Guardian Muse. I'm sure I've looked at this image more than once, but I certainly didn't remember it. To paraphrase Sherlock Holmes (who surely would have been some kind of Spark in the Girl Genius Universe), "I saw, but I did not observe!"
This isn't a significant find, to be sure, but I still felt it was of enough interest to post here.

Cover of issue eleven of the Girl Genius comic book. Story by Phil & Kaja Foglio. Pencils by Phil Foglio. Feature Story Colored by Laurie E. Smith. Lettering, Logos, Book Design, Puzzle & Assorted Illustrations by Kaja Foglio. Cover Colors by Kaja Foglio & Cheyenne Wright.
Read the rest after the cut.
This issue of the Girl Genius comic book was printed in April 2004 and includes pages 5 to 31 of volume 4 of the graphic novel series. The pages in the comic book are numbered 1 to 27. The pages in this issue of the comic book are larger than those in the first ten, which were standard comic book size. Issue eleven and those following have pages the same size as in the graphic novels.
The story in this issue of the comic book is notable because Agatha âdiesâ on the last page. One has to wonder what Girl Genius fans reading the comic at the time thought of this, especially since they had to wait three months before the next issue of the comic book came out.
Okay, I got silly. These were drawn by me, and inked by Phil. You can get them on mugs and shirts and things on our CafePress site at www.cafeshops.com/airship âKaja

Girl Genius is suggested for an audience of Teens and up, due to adventure-style violence and the occasional sight of Victorian underthings. Thank you.
Additional content before the comic: Title page, Our story thus far. Additional content after the comic: A note from the Faculty, An Agatha Heterodyne 1 Minute Mystery, The Girl Genius Secret Cypher Society page.
"An Agatha Heterodyne 1 Minute Mystery" is a completely goofy single-page short story that was printed in Volume 6, Agatha Heterodyne and the Golden Trilobite. It can also be found online on a obscure page on the Girl Genius website.
The note from the Faculty is an interesting nugget of Girl Genius history, and will be covered as an addendum.

This is the first time a title page has been included in one of the comic books.
Agatha Clay is a Sparkâcapable of scientific wonders.
She is also the last of the famous Heterodyne familyâHeroes who disappeared mysteriously many years ago. Folk legend claims that they will someday return, much like England's King Arthur.
Agatha was raised by Adam and Lilith Clayâa pair of constructs built by her father and uncle. Adam & Lilith are better known in stories of the Heterodynes as Punch and Judy. The Clays have just helped Agatha escape from the giant airship Castle Wulfenbachâat the cost of their lives.
Also fleeing the Castle is Krospâa failed experiment created to be the King of the Cats.
Castle Wulfenbach is the fortress of Baron Klaus Wulfenbachâan old companion of the Heterodynes who now rules Europe with an iron fist. The Baron would prefer to keep Agatha safely a prisoner.
The Baron's son Gilgamesh would also like her to stay, but he has other reasons.
And this is a Mimmoth.
This page was used as the "Our Story Thus Far" page in Volume 4, Agatha Heterodyne and the Circus of Dreams, but with the heading added and in sepia tones instead of full color.
(The first page of âA Mechanicsburg Solstice Storyâ was posted on Monday, November 30, 2020.)
This is a very early Girl Genius donation wallpaper. Although the version of the wallpaper file shown above is dated 2013 (along the right side), which was when a new, higher resolution version was released, the drawing itself is dated 2006. (You can find Phil's signature and the date (-06) below the end of the closer sleigh runner, near the right side of the image. It's black on a dark blue background, so it's hard to see; you may have to download the file first.)
All this history aside, this is a really fun illustration and captures Krosp's personality perfectly. Plus, mimmoths!
What am I beholding? Yes, each sense affirms:
A miniature sleigh and eight wee pachyderms!
And a driver so furry and broad in the beam,
I know it is Krosp I driving the team.

Today's entry in the Solstice celebration series features everyone's favorite Girl Genius creature, the Mimmoth! This wallpaper image, featuring the emblem of the International Mimmoth Fanciers Society ⢠Transylvania Polygnostic University Chapter, is dated 2012.
While this image doesn't immediately suggest a strong connection to the Mechanicsburg Solstice Festival, who among us wouldn't want to find a mimmoth in our solstice stocking?
