I learned embroidery going on Youtube. My daughter learned how to remake My Little Ponies and started custom painting them over the summer because of a phone and an internet video. Over the summer my 15yo went from speaking basic French to reading French at an 8th grade level because of apps on her phone and a favorite book in the French translation. All my kids are trilingual, able to communicate comfortably in English, ASL, and Spanish. They play piano, strum the guitar, and make up songs on a daily basis. They all cook. Even the 8yo, who admittedly needs help with the stove. But they can watch a video and scroll through Taste Spotting looking for new recipes and find something they love. My kids have access to a TV, tablets, multiple game systems, a huge supply of books, and phones. All of them create art. Several write poetry. Two enjoy painting. They embroider and sew based on things they learned online. They have access to games but learned to self-regulate because it isn't a forbidden object, it's something they can play when they feel like it, and can walk away from when they are bored. Access to the internet is only an impediment if you don't learn how to set it down. And kids only learn how to set it down if you let them pick it up to start with.
