Bloodborne: Ardenti Sanguine
The Healing Church looked down on the corpse before them. It was aged, and scorched. A century it had been smoldering in its coffin in a far off land unknown to them, but legend had it that this..was the key to their situation. “Are you sure of this Mikolash?” Ludwig said. “Oh quite sure Brother Ludwig....the text was quite clear about this one....” The Scholar of Mensis said with a sly grin. Vicar Amelia did not look so convinced. “Is it truly worth the risk? Our sacred blood must be used for holy purposes...not the revival of....blood thirsty pyromaniacs.” The scholar chuckled softly. “Oh but I think he is exactly what we need. With this scourge of the beast we now all face the last thing we need is inexperienced hands fighting the monsters.” Vicar Amelia shook her head. “The text mentioned that there was a band of heroes, and each one joined that group to either find adventure, or more nobly, aid their fellow man. This one joined for love of carnage. How do we know that he will simply not turn into a beast the moment we inject him with the blood?” Mikolash rubbed his hands together has he looked over the shriveled corpse. “That is why Brother Ludwig is here. To put him down in case he does.” Ludwig shook his head but gripped his sword. Father Laurence had requested this. The beastly scourge was becoming too much. If they did not find a solution to it soon the whole city could be overrun. Old Yharnum was already on the brink of collapse. They had begun to recruit the citizens of Yharnum to help in the fight but Mikolash was right. They needed more experienced hands. And this pyromancer would probably be their best bet to at least stand against them. One warrior worth one hundred.Same as Ludwig himself. “Very well Mikolash. Begin the process.” Vicar Amelia Protested one final time. “Are you sure we do not want the choir to perform this? They are more experienced with the flesh.....Mensis is..well.....students of the mind.” Mikolash looked up from the body and scoffed. “The mind is what will control the body. If this succeeds that will be the leash in which we hold him. Now...let us begin.” The scholar reached for the vial of blood, and twisted the latch...a slow and steady trickle began to go into the corpse. At first nothing happened. But then, the smell of burning wood could be detected. Ludwig gripped his sword with both hands, tip still facing the floor. Vicar Amelia grabbed her pendant and began to recite prayer..... ---------------------------------- Deep in the pits of Hell Daigo was still being tormented by the great boar Morokai. The monster boar covered in tentacles and overly equipped with eyes continued to devour him over and over again. This truly was a nightmare realm he had been trapped in. He had known nothing but the devouring for countless ages. He had lost track of time as time no longer had any meaning for him. He was lost in this crucible of pain.
But then something began to...burn. He could feel it as he lay on the floor, the great boar slowly approaching him. for the first time in a thousand years he opened his eyes........and saw...embers.His body was covered in glowing cinders and smoke began to rise from him. The boar seeing this...stepped back....alarmed that one of its meals was now on fire. Daigo mustered what strength he could, muscles atrophied from centuries of no use. But he stood regardless. And then realized his body was starting to fade. Up above he could hear death roar as he charged down the spirals to stop Daigo from escaping his clutch yet again. And Daigo could only laugh at this strange and new development.......
-----------------------------------------
The church leaders saw as the body seemed to begin to burn. Vicar Amelia looked to Mikolash. “Scholar, what is happening to the body?!”
Mikolash grinned a sinister grin, and began to cackle. “It’s working! He’s returning to this world!!!” Suddenly from inside the skull, tentacle like strands of tissue began to slowly creep over the skeletal remains, and wrap and coil themselves around it...as the healing blood restored this dead man to life. On his right arm, the charred wood of what had been an implanted parasite arm of a botanical nature began to inflate as well, as though being filled with water. Eye lids covered the sockets, a nose began to grow, organs could be heard resuming function as they filled the torso right before they were sealed by muscle and skin. Soon, they had a fully healed man with a black wooden arm on their table. He was olive skinned with a full beard, long jet black hair, and a muscular build. They all leaned in closer to see if he was alive. The eyes of the dead man opened and they all jumped back in alarm. He sat up and cracked his neck, taking his first breath, a plume of smoke escaping his mouth as he exhaled. “Well well well......back in the land of the living once again...” Daigo said. -----------------------------------------
An hour later, Daigo was still in the hospital room of the clinic. He had a sheet wrapped around his waist and he was observing the rows of blood vials and medical tools that covered the walls. As he observed, a man in church like apparel came in, looking him up and down in amazement. “So it worked...you have returned?” The man said.
Daigo turned and looked at him. “Indeed I have...though I must say things have changed. To whom though do I owe this escape from hell?” The man bowed. “I am Vicar Laurence, of the Healing Church, its founder and leader. And I have brought you back to the land of the living to seek out your help.”
Daigo scoffed and pulled down a surgical cleaver. “Is that right?” he said testing its balance in a few practice swings. “And why me exactly? I would have thought that a good holy warrior would have been more to your liking than a murdering bastard like me.” He then looked over his shoulder. “Unless a murdering bastard is exactly what you need?” Laurence gently nodded his head. “Indeed it is. It is a known truth that many great family’s ancestors were cutthroats who did what needed to be done. And now we need such a hard man to aid us. We need you.”
Daigo thought about what he said for a moment and then with sudden speed whipped around and flung the cleaver right past the mans head. It stuck into the wall with a sharp ring as the metal vibrated. A few strands of hair fell onto Laurence’s shoulder. “Well when you put it that way.....what do you need?”
Laurence approached Daigo and on a near table he placed a large book showing photo’s, sketches, testimony’s, and news paper clippings. “What is happening is that there is a plague in our city that is turning its citizens into beasts. There is no cure for the transformation and we are required to....put them down before they can hurt anyone.”
Daigo stroked his beard as the man talked. “I see...much like a spreading case of rabies.” He then looked to Laurence with a critical eye. “I must admit though......a simple outbreak of turning into monsters seems a bit much to bring back someone as old and violent as me.......unless there’s...something else you need slain?”
Laurence simply smiled. “Thankfully no...at the moment.”
Daigo smiled gently, he knew this man was hiding something...but at the moment he was far too grateful to have escaped hell to ask questions. “Very well. Point me to the armory and I’ll get to work....”
ahhh... pog, or some say poggers...
