Freddie 1969 nyarán sikeresen megszerezte a diplomáját az Ealing Főiskolán, így hivatalosan is grafikus végzettséget kapott. In London, there was little chance of getting action, but Freddie wanted to stay in London. He thought that changing the band's name would be good for the band, so one night he called up guitarist Mike Berson and suggested he rename the band to Wreckage. Wreckage first performed at the Ealing College on October 31, 1969, shortly after drummer Mike "Miffer" Smith left the band. "Miffer is no longer in the band because a bastard, he took hold and stepped down, said he would be a milk supplier in Widnes. That miserable Miffer told everyone that I had become a real drama queen.” - wrote Freddie, outraged in a letter to a friend.
