모바일 게임 플랫폼인 Midverse가 중소 개발업체의 게임 퍼블리싱을 지원하는 프로그램인 Invest+Publish를 출범했다고 밝혔다. 이 비즈니스에서 잔뼈가 굵은 전문가들의 노하우를 전수할 뿐만 아니라 유명 IP(Intellectual Property)와의 연계를 통해 더 큰 성과를 낼 수 있도록 돕겠다는 것이다. 이 프로그램은 기존 개발사들이 제대로 컨설팅받기 어려웠던 전략적인 영역까지 아우를 수 있을 것으로 기대된다. 

Midverse는 이 프로그램의 시작과 함께 Disruptor Beam과 Imaginary Games에 투자했다. 이번 투자를 통해 Midverse는 유저 획득 및 모바일 비즈니스 노하우를, 개발사들은 개발 역량을 서로 공유할 수 있을 것이다. 

최근 급상승하는 유저 획득 비용은 개발사들에게 큰 부담으로 다가온다. 이러한 맥락에서 Midverse와의 파트너십은 게임 퍼블리싱에서 새로운 기회요인으로 다가올 수 있을 것이다. Midverse의 Rizwan Virk는 "모바일 게임 개발사가 Game of Throne이나 Star trek과 같은 유명 IP와 제휴함으로써 새로운 가치를 창출하고 있습니다. Invest+Publish를 통해 이러한 사례를 더 많이 개척할 것입니다."라고 밝혔다.

--- 유명 IP와의 제휴는 그 막대한 비용 때문에 거대 퍼블리셔들의 전유물로 여겨졌다. 이제 Midverse와 같은 모델을 통해 창의적인 아이디어와 뛰어난 실력을 갖춘 중소 규모의 업체들도 또다른 대박을 노릴 수 있게 되었다.

IP의 다각화를 통한 OSMU(One Source Multi Use)의 발달이 다소 늦은 국내에서 유사한 모델을 도입하기가 쉬워보이지는 않는다. 즉흥적으로 드는 생각을 옮기자면, 과거의 창세기전과 같은 클래식 게임이나 무협 소설 등을 모바일로 이식할 때에는 이 모델을 고려할 수 있을 것 같다.
