Work update
So I’ve been helping out in micro for about a month now. Which has been a great experience. I love micro but don’t get to do a lot of the different aspects of the department because of my shift and being a generalist.
I’ve always felt torn about working in that department. As I said, I love it. But you generally get stuck there if you choose to go that route. Why? Because most techs it’s an either or situation. If you work in micro that’s all you work. Doing plate readouts and sensitivities and so forth. Working 2nd/3rd shift I will still get to do setups and a few gram stains but none of the really fun stuff.
I would love to be a micro tech, but not full time. Because if you go down that road you won’t do anything else. And over time you would lose your other skills and proficiencies.
So it’s been a rare treat to get to work day shift and while I haven’t been doing readouts per se I still do setups for sensitivities, gram stains, culture setups, AFB smears and digests, and fungal smears.
I was given an honorary “curveball” award for my willingness to help out and move around as needed. I was surprised and happy to receive the recognition.
The micro people are throwing me a goodbye lunch today and everyone keeps saying how much they will miss me after tomorrow
So much love. I’m overwhelmed. And so lucky to have found this job, community, and friends
