here morty was a criminal, caden worked for him for quite some time and accidentally gave him that scar, and wasn’t around to save morty from chemical reaction (caden’s a great chemist actually, only scientific subject that was interesting and easy to understand to him). however, exactly that made morty to leave dangerous job and finally find out who he himself is.
