Author’s note:

I don’t really remember how the idea of writing this fic came about. I know it happened during a time when I felt a bit discouraged after realizing we might never get season 3 of rottmnt. At the same time, I had a lot of ideas floating around in my head about how to fill certain gaps left by both the series and the movie, and I also wanted to write a larger-scale story (though I definitely didn’t expect it to become THIS massive, don’t let the word count fool you!).

I also started writing this story just for fun, but it ended up giving me much more than I ever imagined, both in terms of writing experience (especially when it comes to structuring large stories) and on a personal level.

Mikey isn’t my favorite character, but I grew really attached to him while writing this fic, because even though all four turtles get their spotlight (and their very angsty moments), it’s Mikey who carries the emotional arc of the story. I tried to stay as close to canon as possible, but obviously I went beyond it, and this is a much more mature story (plus, the turtles are a little older). And I couldn’t resist adding references to other versions, which I absolutely loved doing.

I should clarify that even though I didn’t use the “No Romantic Relationship(s)” tag, there isn’t really any romance in this story or anything like that… at least not explicitly. The thing is, there are certain relationships between certain characters that implicitly suggest something more. So I’ll leave those kinds of things up to the reader’s interpretation (it’s not the important part, but well… there are definitely some things there).

Lastly, I want you to know that I’m very satisfied with how this story turned out. I doubted myself many times, and I was afraid I wouldn’t be able to keep all the threads together or tell the story the right way. But it’s obvious this story was meant to exist. So… yeah, here it is.

Little moment of Mikey and Donnie being twins that is positively adorable and I need more of it ASAP. Its 10k words but reads like 30 in the best way possible, like literally a must read!
